CarPlay - duh
I picked up my CGTS 4.0 in early December and love it. This is my first vehicle with CarPlay and I am a fan; however I have been having intermittent problems with connection to the PCM. Finally figured it out this morning. You phone need to be unlocked for CarPlay to connect the PCM. I checked the documentation in Good to Know and it doesn't mention this. Maybe they figured it was too obvious. Anyhow, for any other dummies out there, it's a pretty simple fix.

Note that one of the first couple of times you connect your phone it should ask you if you want to allow CarPlay while the phone is locked. If you tap "Allow" then you don't have to unlock it each time you connect. If you you tapped "Cancel" by mistake you may need to delete the phone from the PCM and re-pair to see that prompt again.

As it turns out, my phone was also set like that. Must be something else. Porsche wonky tech is always a possibility. I will also try the re-pair. LOL.

Is CarPlay wireless in the Porsche? I see that is becoming more common. The wireless connection was engineered between BMW and Apple three years ago. Its very nice to do the wireless connection. Just drop phone in the charge and CarPlay connects. I do switch back and forth between CarPlay and regular MMI since there are features that don't work with CarPlay.

um, I am surprised, we have the wired variety in our Sienna, not a big deal. I have found the connectors in the iPhones from first gen to the current lightning are the weakest link. Going wireless charging in the car and wireless connection saves that wear and tear. Maybe in a few years.....If I had to guess, the 911 probably will have it or get it first.

All models but the 718 have wireless CarPlay.

On this subject - do you guys notice a delay sometimes when plugging in your phone for carplay? Sometimes it takes 2 seconds, sometimes it can take a full minute for carplay to actually show up for me.
