To TRZ06, I think you will be happy with the GT4. It may just take a few modifications for it to be "just right" for you however. A little extra power, responsiveness, and balanced sound when the exhaust is upgraded will be welcome upgrades.

Also remember the solidity and feel of driving the Cayman body shell is at the highest of levels. It is one of the stiffest metal chassis car out their with the structural rigidity of the 981 Cayman being something on the order of 42,000 Nm/degree. The GT4 has even more reinforcement in the rear as well to further improve on that. That is almost in the league with other carbon fiber tub sports cars. This creates a super stable platform from which to build a suspension from. I noticed every time I jumped into my Cayman S and it is even more pronounced in the new GT4.

My car has 1000 miles on it as of today. I do hear a mechanical whining noise, which I think you may be referring to. The mechanical whine increases in intensity with engine RPM that and I always just associated that noise with the very high compression of the engine. As the RPM increases, it sounds similar to the high pitched whine of other cars with high compression that I have driven or ridden in. I think if it were the belts making that noise I would still hear at least some of the whine at engine idle, and I don't hear it at all at idle.

Does anyone know if the GT4 has a secondary high-pressure fuel pump system like many BMWs have? (If we have one?) That could possibly also be contributing to the engine song/cacophony.
I did the same. I haven't driven my Spyder for about 3 weeks due the there being so much salt on the roads, but we had a good rain that washed it away. I took it out yesterday on the highway since I still didn't trust the back roads to be clean. I drove it for about 50 miles with the top up and the radio off. I drove faster than I should have (the roads were pretty empty and I kept one eye on my radar detector the whole time. I have the speed alert set both in my car and my Escort detector. I won't say how high, but they both were constantly nagging me to slow the hell down!) Wow! I love this car! It's like a drug. As soon as I park it, I want more! Regarding the sound, it's absolutely great. Not too loud, not too isolated. And the road I was on is concrete which is significantly louder than asphalt.

Seriously. They are quiet, come with synthesized motorsports sound through the stereo, and turbo charged. I even hear you can tap into their ECU and tone down the synthesized motorsport sounds should you find even that low level unacceptable.

There should be nothing but smiles when you drive. You should WANT, find yourself coming up with excuses, lying through your teeth, to get out on the road.

Anything else is just a waste.
True! Just moved on from an M2 Comp. You can download an app and turn off the fake sound pumped through the stereo.
