PEC ATLANTA DELIVERY #1096
Hi all and happy holidays!
After about 7 months of research, and 4 months of waiting, my father and I finally picked up the new toy from PEC ATL. It was an incredible trip and an experience I will soon not forget. Melvin and his team did an incredible job and like many others have stated, it is a well worth it option if you can swing it. I've posted some photos for enjoyment. Feel free to ask any questions!
It's amazing how much Miami Changes with the lighting!

Beautiful Spyder!! Looks like you were blessed with a great day to take delivery. Please tell me more about the PEC delivery experience. In a perfect world I will take delivery there late March.

We arrived the day prior and checked in to the Kimpton Overland across the street. I have never seen a hotel as empty as when we checked in... Must have been 10 other guests total. We did some minor exploring around the Atlanta area and grabbed some lunch in a cute village called Little 5 Points. Overall, the hotel was fine for what it was, a clean place to sleep and shower and a 30 second walk to the PEC. I'm sure outside of a global pandemic, the place is bustling and has much more to offer.
The next morning, we headed over to the PEC where we got ready to take delivery. You first arrive at the front desk and they give you custom badges. Since Miami blue was no longer on the configurator, we were given badges with gentian blue instead (no big deal). We were then introduced to Melvin who gave us a private VIP tour of the facility. He then took us down to the delivery center where he unveiled the car with the help of Erin. They were both so helpful and really made the experience unforgettable. We hopped in the cars and went for a spin around the track. The aspect I most enjoyed regarding the driving experience was that there was no long classroom safety session or long warm up laps. It was one warm up and then pedal to the metal for the full hour and a half. About halfway through, another participant ended up putting a new 4S into the guardrail, thankfully he was unharmed. While you are out driving, a PEC team member takes your new car around the facility for a full on photoshoot. Finally, you end the day with a private lunch in restaurant 356 which was delicious. After lunch, we slapped on some tracwrap and hit the road. We ended up staying at the Ritz Carlton Lake Oconee which was a nice hour and a half drive from Atlanta and then drove back to South Florida the next day.
Overall, an incredible experience that I recommend everyone partake in if able. I'm sure there's somethings I missed but if you have any other specific questions feel free to ask!
Best,
Jared

Gorgeous car, and a gorgeous place to take delivery. PEC ATL is an amazing building on its own. The track is short, and sweet!
Congrats on that beauty!

I was planning to do PEC L.A delivery, but they are backlogged to mid-March, so I chose to take delivery of my car (arriving in port 12/30) at the dealership and I will do the "delivery" experience at a later date

Congrats on your gorgeous Miami Spyder! Starting to seriously regret that I completely excluded Miami from consideration when it was still available. May be one of the best Porsche colors and it's a shame it was discontinued.

Thanks. It was a beautiful day indeed. 61 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. Now to a trip overview:

Pls tell more about this track experience. Do you get to switch between different cars? Instructor in passenger seat? Is the driving format lead-follow where everyone follows a lead/pace car and there's no passing? Any track/racing experience required?
Congrats on your gorgeous Miami Spyder! Starting to seriously regret that I completely excluded Miami from consideration when it was still available. May be one of the best Porsche colors and it's a shame it was discontinued.

In regards to your questions, I'll try to answer them best I can in order.
Do you get to switch between different cars?
Since we were picking up a new vehicle, I believe they made an exception to my special request. My father and I did not want to share the 1 driving experience that the delivery came with, so I purchased an additional 911 driving experience. I believe normally, you are only allowed 1 vehicle per reservation. It was definitely cool being able to switch vehicles and be able to see capabilities of both cars.
Instructor in passenger seat?
Since they reopened after COVID, the instructors have not been in the car with you. Instead, they operate a lead follow format, but I would consider it more of a "keep up" with the instructor format, especially if they see you are grasping the general concepts of driving fast and controlled. The instructors say they enjoy it more than sitting in the passenger seat as it allows them to show you the correct line and the correct movements you should be making with the car. They communicate to you via radio.
Is the driving format lead-follow where everyone follows a lead/pace car and there's no passing?
The driving is pretty much 1 on 1 with your instructor. your two vehicles stay together and the instructor will drive as fast as he thinks you can keep up with really. There's no passing as it's not really set up as a race and more of driving/handling modules.
Any track/racing experience required?
I have no track or racing experience besides my daily drives to work, where I frequently think I'm Louis Hamilton in my S5 Sportback. It was very easy to pick up and it doesn't hurt that Porsches are exceptionally handling vehicles.
There's a few videos on youtube that display all the modules. There's low friction kick plates, Low friction handling, a short but sweet road course around the whole facility etc...

Awesome! So if you can keep up in a controlled manner, the instructor will keep raising it up until you start falling behind. 1.5hrs of this just by itself is more than worth the price of the PEC delivery -- or is the track part extra? Definitely something to consider.

The option itself is around $650. Here's what it includes- a tour of the PEC, an in-depth vehicle orientation with a delivery specialist, a 90-minute experience in a Porsche on the driver development track, and lunch at Restaurant 356. (Plus some cool porsche gear/swag)
If you broke that down to a la carte pricing:
Delivery orientation: (free I guess)
90 Min driving experience: depending on what car you purchase it varies, but let's say it averages about $600 (x2 if you have a guest)
Lunch: Easily $200 dollars worth of steak/fish/apps/dessert
Porsche swag: $120
If you were to do it individually it would be over double the delivery experience costs.

Interesting. I did the PEC five years ago after purchasing a CGTS, my dealer gave me the experience. I live two hours away in NE Alabama so it's not far away. I got the driver/coach in the same vehicle, and chose a 911 PDK and a CGTS 6 speed. The course is tight and narrow, the Armco is always very close. I thoroughly enjoyed it and am looking forward to a return visit next February-March when my new CGTS 4.0 arrives. I appreciate your description of the new COVID restrained experience, I expect those restrictions will still be in place when I go. I plan to drive home on back roads by heading west from the PEC and get away from Atlanta traffic as quickly as possible, I just hope for good weather.

I wonder how many cars end up in the wall...
Did the participant end up having to pay for the mistake, or is this covered by Porsche?
How many teams (lead instructor and new car buyer) are on the track at the same time?
So many questions.
