Default Which Stripped Porsche Boxster Is Right for You?

From Road and Track. Lots of praise again for Spyder. Lots of iterations of Boxster, especially if they add 25th anniversary. Maybe the last of the ICE?

Thanks for sharing, an interesting read that confirms I made the correct decision for me, although I can see the allure of the Boxster T, it is great to have choices.

We'll see if this is the last ICE mid-engine platform from Porsche, that too could make for some discussion, but only discussion for me as I will keeping the Spyder for the foreseeable future!

Useless "comparison". No one is cross-shopping a Spyder vs a T.

Funny spending 25% of the text in the article on a "minor quibble" (the PITA Spyder top). Maybe Porsche will reward its Boxster fanatics with a Boxster R for its 25th anniversary with all the Spyder bits minus the top, humps, and some weight.

What I don’t think I have seen is any journo make the connection that in order to be able to have the streamliners the sacrifice is the roof ends up inherently more work than a Miata.

You can’t have the looks of the Spyder that all the journos praise and the simplicity in operation of one step drop top as the rear deck lid needs to extend right to the roll hoops to create the desired visual.

I’ve been waiting for some journo out there to temper the roof operation bitching with this simple fact, but to my knowledge it hasn’t been successfully accomplished yet.

Apparently the 25th anniversary model is based on a 4.0 GTS

Of course the Spyder is amazing and you pay for it but lets face it, a mid engine Porsche with a tunable turbo, manual gearbox, and a power roof, the T is in category of its own.
Include the fact that you can get LWBS and PCCBs, makes for a great little package.

A 981 Spyder can be had for cheaper than a new T with LWBS and PCCBs, that still sounds like a better deal to me.

Do you guys think that there is any possibility that they bring out a 718 Spyder RS?

I *very* much doubt it - they have never done an RS soft top - they could I suppose do a "Speedster" version with whatever engine the RS comes with... ala the 991.2 end-of-model "special"

They should do a super-Boxster R as the last NA farewell model. 4.0, power top, GT suspension/brakes/wheels, aggressive front/rear bumper, lighter.

on a scale of 10, how enraged would you be if the Boxster 25th is all of the above, but with a derivative of the 987 Spyder roof?
