Picked up my car today. wow!
I am pretty tired and about to hit the hay but I wanted to say that I absolutely LOVE this car. I know everyone forms their own opinions and each of us come from different car ownership histories, but it would be a real head scratcher (to me) if anyone doesn't fall in love with this car. I picked up the car and drove it back home, we had to switch cars and drive to Rhode island for a family event tomorrow, just arrived so I apologize for being brief.
It's funny as we were driving down to pick up the car I showed my wife how sweaty my palms were from nerves/excitement. It continued the whole way down!
Coming from an e36 m3 and 2nd gen sti...this is a huge step up. I had only driven a 996 c2 for 10 minutes some 20 years ago...and did a Porsche experience with a few different models 2 years ago. Having a Porsche has always been a dream of mine, and I thought about this day for I don't know how many years and it came! Only track experience is skip barber race school. Originally thought of.getting a gt3 some years ago, drove a 718 gts at the pcna experience and I was blown away with much fun it was..
Picked up the car ( and saw it in the flesh for the first time ) from the shop where I did full xpel and ceramic lowered coating, lowered the car, corner balance/alignment. I was in good company as they were also working on 2 991 speedsters and a 991 gt2rs. I also got to see an LFA and N-largo there. Pretty awesome! We chatted for a while, awesome guys, i didn't want to leave but had to get home.
As I realize time is ticking away and I should be getting to bed I'll cut to the chase -
- The gt4 looks great in photos but it must be seen in person to capture it's real beauty. It looks way better in person! Not sure if it's a good thing but it has gotten a lot of attention so far.
- It felt really foreign driving the car initially but bythe time I got home, I felt very very comfortable with it.
- Wow, the car.... I don't know where to begin. It is everything i imagined it to be. It is so dang awesome. The driving position feels perfect. The balance feels perfect. The steering feels very well weighted to me. I was varying engine rpms and staying below 4500 according to break in protocol and varying throttle response, but the engine is really strong and pulls hard.someone said the shifter feels like a bolt action rifle. I concur. I was originally planning to get a filter delete and an exhaust, but I must say, the car sounds really really good. I was no 981 owner to compare the sound, but I am very happy with how it sounds. I will still get an exhaust/filter delete to uncork it more, but I think it sounds fantastic. Not once did I think about gearing. Lwb fantastic. I essentially got them sight unseen. I sat in lwb for maybe 30 seconds 3 years ago at a car show. They hug my body so well a(5'11" 165ish lb) was in the car for 2-2.5 hours not once did I feel uncomfortable. In fact I felt rejuvenated when I got home. Despite being in relatively good shape , my back is not great from the nature of my work and I see a chiropractor. The lwb made my back feel upright and strong. No doubt the 2 way and 18 ways are great also.
There is more to talk about , but I should be getting to bed. The clutch by the way felt good, when I depress it I feel a vibration that goes up my leg, feels cool and mechanical.the only thing I can think of is I have the iron brakes and they squeal like a pig..I'm sure this gets better over time.
.
I cannot wait to get back home and drive this car. It's that good .

Congratulations! So glad you’re thrilled with your new GT4.
It’s always so nice to read about folks collecting their cars especially those who are new to Porsche. Their excitement and sense of achievement usually comes through and reminds us all of how fortunate we are.
OP, you’re now ruined... just like the rest of us. Enjoy!
