Rinse/Repeat - Spyder Review Down Under
Again same old same old - “what a car “- “but the gearing”. Lots of praise even if he keeps calling it a Boxster Spyder and he doesn’t know 1/4 mile time or 0-60 - not that it matters but if you are going to quote 718 4C, at least be consistent. He says by 6500 rpms you are illegal in 2nd gear in most countries in the world including Australia. To anyone who has or had the latest GT3 manual, what speed are you at in a GT3 manual in second 7500 rpm’s. I wondering how many sub 4 cars to 60 do you reach 3rd gear in a 3 pedal manual. Can’t remember what gear I was in Ferrari 360 Spyder when I was near top of 2nd. I thought car sounded great - as I do mine

You’re Welcome. I wouldn’t have minded if he said “GT4 Boxster Spyder”.

Has Porsche ever stated why they used such a tall gear ratio? I'm assuming the marketing department is responsible but would be interesting to know what they've said.

Can somebody please show me any serious sports car with 400+ hp that redlines in second gear below 65mph? And considering most canyon carving is done below that, I’d really like to know what cars are redlining in second on those roads.

Well.......no, unless you are on really tight roads !!
However, I actually find the gearing just fine for this purpose. In my 981 Cayman GTS I was routinely in 3rd and 4th, here I am in 2nd and 3rd with a little more torque readily available at all times. It is actually perfect for for Canyon/Mountain roads. And who really wants to driving continuously at redline? 4000-6000 is a great place to spend sustained RPMs in this car on twisty roads.
