Should I Order a UNICORN? / GTS 4.0 with PCCB

How do Porsche iron rotors make it harder to set the corner entry speed where you want it? Do you have a link or a reference for this phenomenon? I’ve been setting up corners with irons on backroads and track (at 4/10 and at the grip limit) for decades. The ease with which I set up a corner has grown with experience and has been inversely proportional to how much braking power I use.

I’ve ****ed rotors by getting a rock stuck in one. I had to get it deglazed and even then it was never the same. My second car had the brake completely bind on the rear rotor.
all these things costed relatively little money to fix and replace.
these thing you will encounter on the track. They are not always clean and brakes under load are more prone to failure.
Tracks eat brakes, but not before many sets of tires.
Take a car out for a test drive if possible if you are undecided.
My personally opinion is that I can not afford to replace carbon ceramics and I also enjoy a virtually unlimited pad selection with “normal” rotors.

Guys, just go drive them and decide. My opinions are just that, opinions. But I’d suggest that you don’t rely on advice from people who’ve never even owned a PCCB car. Drive and decide for yourself. Lotta experts on here who haven’t even driven a car with carbon ceramics.

No reason to be bitter.
Another way to think about it, if the GTS 4.0 was available with GT4 PCCBs for the same price, as a GT4 owner I would be pissed because the GTS buyer received more an upgrade from standard for the same price.

I don’t understand your logic... smaller than what? GT4/3? So are the standard brakes. That option price isn’t the entire brake price... it’s the additional cost from standard brakes.
No reason to be bitter.

Smaller/lighter (brakes, wheels, suspension) is better for a backroads carver. You get bigger brakes, wheels, and suspension in the Spyder, but less is more in the gts4.0 while remaining Porsche-level adequate.

I'm ok with smaller sized rotor as long as they pricing it accordingly, say 5k then I'm all for it not complaining.

Well I'm not wired like you to justify anything porsche does with all the complication: I consider paying 9k to get 410/390 pccb good buy, pricey but worth the money, esp from a 330/330 steelie setup; I don't consider paying 8k to get 350/350 pccb good buy, esp when from a 350/350 steelie setup, would I fork out the money if I really want pccb on the car? Yes I would since doing it afterward still cost more, but that doesn't change the fact that I'm not super happy with what they charge me for what they are offering, I'm paying similar $$ for much less degree of upgrade, thus I'm bitter. If you are not bitter about it, good for you!

I've currently got my first ever Porsche on order, a 2021 Cayman GTS 4.0. It's scheduled to be built between Sep 25-Oct 2, 2020. I don't currently have PCCBs on the order, but as numerous users here have pointed out, since they go out of production at the end of October (for all 718s except the Spyder and GT4), if I spec them I will have a UNICORN. I'm trying to figure out if it's worth it to spend the extra $7K+. I know they will eliminate brake dust on my wheels, but that in and of itself doesn't justify the expense.
The car's intended use is 65% daily driver / 30% recreational / 5% track. In another post someone threw it out there that the PCCBs might be good for 30 track days over the life of the brakes. If I'm only doing 1-2 days/year on the track that might be OK. Whether I get irons or ceramics, if I start tracking more I'd probably be swapping the brakes out either way.
I know that both of Porsche's brake systems have huge ranks of supporters, and the pros/cons have been debated widely.
What I'm really wondering is what are the benefits of ordering a unicorn? Is it likely to really pay off in resale? I've heard that PCCBs don't usually add much value there, so I'm wondering why so many people perceive such value in having a unicorn. I'm wondering if there's something I'm missing.
Thanks

How many people ended up ordering a 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 with PCCB's? I passively keep my eye out for one and don't think I've ever seen one listed for sale. Even tighter production band, really looking to see if a PDK and PCCB car ever pops up.
