I wish the AQ solution was a little more "robust"...I'll be opting for a re-gear. "If works as advertised", one of the Cat-less header solutions should solve the TQ issue, but $ for $, I think the result of a gear ratio change would be more enjoyable than exhaust...at least for me.

Close...prefer the "DeMan/GT Gear" re-gear. Last I checked (which was last year some time), Sharkwerks didn't have a "2nd" gear, but DeMan did. Would "try" to do new 2-4, and 6th gears...close up 2-4, try to leave 5, and taller 6th. That, and DeMan is closer...and re-gear may go all out the window because I got peer-pressured into getting the 4.5.

Great review, thanks Matt. Driving the car the whole time at shall we say a very expeditious clip and still giving a good casual verbal review. Few of the other reviewer‘s can do that. It is nice to have a real car guy driving the car as it should be done and not just spouting off a bunch of facts. For all the groans about the exhaust, when you actually drive it like you stole it (the way it’s supposed to be); it sounds really good. You obviously know those roads well and were seriously booking it. A very engaging video especially when you were ripping corners and popping all those down shifts.

Now I see you were comparing cost, not the level of difficulty. I guess there may be some exhaust options that are that expensive, but they’d have to be at the pricey end of the spectrum.

Wow, great exhaust and engine sound from that review, given the current pricing of the aftermarket exhaust systems, they may be in big trouble, until I drive my car I won't be pulling the trigger on anything just yet!
Did you catch his comments about the GPF and how it has 'holes' in the substrate to make the US version louder!? Time stamp approximately 2 minutes.
Oh and for us Spyder owners, at the 18 minute mark, strong reasoning for our car and the on road/open top GT experience!

Thanks for the additional information, that is a slightly different approach, but perhaps with similar results, I see that the 6th gear change would be beneficial for highway driving. As for the exhaust comparison, interesting but many would not likely do headers, just the OAP and muffler assembly for just over $5k.
Food for thought...

I would prefer shorter ratios but I think they suit this car a lot better than the 981 GT4.
It feels eager around 4k revs, you don't need to constantly be in the power band so I don't mind it that much.
I haven't seen the torque curve comparison but the 718 must have more torque in the lower rev band.
I'm currently using the GT4 as a daily and it sees redline quite often now.
One piece of advice, don't be afraid to downshift into 1st.
It's long enough and with rev matching, it's not going to destroy the car (obviously only downshift at a reasonable speed).

Serious question: Can someone explain why no one complains about the long gearing in the GT3? From what I understand, second gear still tops out above 80mph so it seems like you would be shifting just as infrequently.

There's enough power and shove for it to be ok, GT3 is just so much faster going from 60 - 120 mph. But pretty sure GT3 doesn't shift as high in the 80s in second as the GT4.

Is there anywhere easy to see redline at each gear in mph on 987/997/981/991/718.....? I realize 718 and 981 gt’s are identical. But I agree with the post above: is the 718 gearing THAT much different than 991 manual? And how do they compare to 987 or 997rs? I saw a recent thread but there seemed to be a some disagreement on even 997rs vs 991-3manual; it has to be transparent somewhere, no?
