Default **Fabspeed Motorsport** | 718 GT4/Spyder Exhaust Development

Good Evening Rennlisters,

Introducing the newest edition to the Fabspeed Motorsport Hanger, our brand new 2020 718 GT4. Our president Joe Fabiani, a 30 year PCA member, bought the car to ensure adequate long term development of the world's very best performance. Before we dive in, any Rennlister reading this article is also cordially invited to stop by Fabspeed headquarters and sample the collection of air-cooled and water-cooled cars we have on hand. We’ve received a lot of questions after releasing teasers on our plans so we’ll get right to it. As you all know, the long-awaited 718 GT4 returns to the flat-six. This 4.0-liter engine will also be used in the Spyder and the GTS and we will be releasing a full product suite for all of these cars.
.

Our Plans:
Utilizing our Fabspeed engineering team we 3D scanned all the exhaust system components while on the car (pictures and video) and exhaust removed from the car on the bench using a Creaform Handyscan 700 laser scanner and our Romer Faro CMM. This data cloud was rendered into a solid model of all components to build 3D models of all new parts and fixtures. and transferred into Tezet CAD (swiss CNC mandrel bending software) and then sent to our Unison limited defense quality all-electric mandrel bender www.unisonltd.com
.

.
Expect to see performance headers, both catted and catless (for all-out Competition Racing use only). Fabspeed’s partner HJS Emissions Technology Germany is consulting with our team here in Fort Washington PA to choose the optimal 200 CPSI tri-metallic catalytic converter to maximize emissions legal power and enhanced flat- 6 sports car sound. The HJS Katalasaytors have never been imported to North America before and are massive EURO 6 homologated 200 cell HD units. We’re going to use the largest diameter cats we can fit on the car, which means more flow and NO CEL, no P430/P420 codes, and no ECU tune required to pass emissions. The headers are currently running through our R&D teams' hands, so unfortunately we cannot divulge any pictures or designs as of yet. But stay tuned as we take over 25+ years of Fabspeed experience in Porsche air-cooled and water-cooled engines and performance exhaust to maximize power.

Our next focus in searching for more performance and sports car sound was eliminating the left and right pipes that connect the headers to the rear muffler or back-box. These connecting pipes on the 2020 718 GT4 streetcar have ceramic Gas Particulate Filter, GPF, that attenuate sports car sound.
.

.
The main goal of these filters is to eliminate soot from the exhaust caused by direct injection. Particulate filters are typically employed on diesel trucks to eliminate soot and... “Rolling Coal”. Personally we are all for helping out mother earth, but we also get tickles in our jimmies with the sound of that 4.0L flat-six! We have some preliminary builds going and wow the sound results are awesome! (see the video). This upgrade will be a simple “do it yourself” install, no check engine lights, and will save roughly 9 lbs 3.5KG from the car.

The Fabspeed Over Axle GPF Delete Pipes were CAD designed and CNC mandrel bent in 1 piece stainless steel inhouse at Fabspeed Motorsport. The T304L flanges were CAD designed and waterjet cut on our FLOW Mach 3 waterjet at 97,000PSI and cleaned up on our HAAS VF2 mill. Notice our 2 into 1 merge collector with an internal knife-edge for maximum flow and maximum scavenging to both inlets on the GT4 rear back-box muffler. Premium polished signature #2 finished with laser engraving all completed at Fabspeed Motorsport.
.

.
Next up for the mighty GT4is a bespoke rear Valvetronic exhaust muffler back box section. Helical Limited, Fabspeed’s United Kingdom partner was consulted. Helical recommended their super high temperature valves that they supply to Porsche AG for their Porsche GT3/GT3RS cars. Fabspeed Motorsport was appointed by Helical England as the exclusive importer distributor of Helical Aerospace components over 7 years ago. Fabspeed stopped using Chinese Asian exhaust valves as they all failed while new and especially failed when subjected to high heat, high performance engines and Track Day events. Caveat Emptor.

The new 718 4.0 liter rear muffler system we have CAD designed will feature Fabspeed’s trademark X-pipe design that creates increased flow and more high pitched sports car sound. There will also be a racing, super lightweight option. All rear Fabspeed catback/ GPF back systems will be simple direct bolt-on systems with no CEL’s, and will significantly cut down on weight off the back end for better mid-engine handling. Lower polar moment of inertia.

Fabspeed has multiple bolt-on exhaust tips options ready for sale. Dual tips in Matte Carbon Fiber, Polished Stainless Steel, Brushed Single Wall Stainless Steel, and Satin Black. For sound reduction for the stock OEM muffler we have 90 degree Brushed Turn Down tips.
Looking to simply upgrade the aesthetics of the back end of the car. Loosen the OEM clamp with an E12 Inverted Torx socket, and tighten up the new Fabspeed tip with a 13mm wrench. We also will offer 90 degree turn down tips for track days, simply swap off your tips and skate by at Laguna Seca!

For the interior, we have developed Carbon fiber track mats to protect your carpet and interior.

Stay tuned for other products to come as well as pictures, in house dyno numbers, and sound clips. Fabspeed is so excited to have this absolutely stunning powerhouse of a car to work with. Follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitterfor daily updates! As always, we want to give the people what they deserve. Be ready for some big stuff, we’re just getting started. Once comfortable, feel free to cruise by and take a tour of our 26,000 sq ft facility and test drive our cars and see the 1st 718 GT4 delivered in North America from Porsche of Delaware.

Running the Fabspeed Catless race headers on my 981 GT4, nothing but positive things to say. Installation was easy, quality was great(received a hand signed checklist and pictures of them being welded when I requested it).

And are there any plans to add some heat shields, I am concerned about the heat soak into those on car components close to these pipes...

As pictured above, or are there plans to add any heat shielding?

From our dyno testing and thermal testing, it's been assessed that heat shielding is not necessary for the 718 GT4 Axle Pipes.

Thanks Scott!

Another question, does the new 718 GT4/Spyder Valvetronic X-Pipe system come with exhaust tips included as shown on the website?

It will have 5 tip options, since we're still in the prototype stages we haven't added them as options just yet but it should be nearing completion later this week.

- Matte Carbon Fiber
- Satin Black
- Polished Stainless Steel
- Brushed Stainless 90 Degree Turn-Down
- Brushed Stainless Single Wall

Regarding your Maxflow valved exhaust, I read this on you website, only 4lbs lighter than stock? Really?

Weight savings 4lbs 1.8KG from the rear of all 718 GT4, Spyder and GTS 4.0 liter cars worldwide.
