Yup, that's the recommended procedure and how I always did it.

Except that even with less tension on the convertible top with the trunk still not latched, I have to pull very hard to get the roof close enough to not have the latch hook skip off the frame.. waaaay harder then I should have too!

Agreed, the difference is easy to see side by side, I liked to old look a lot, but I love the new look even more!

Next time at Porsche Munich I will ask for a readjustment because this situation is not acceptable.
I need to try this, mine is a bear to close otherwise!

after about 1500mi of driving pleasure - almost;-) - I came to the decision not to take it to Porsche Munich and let someone else poke at it awkwardly.

Roof tension meanwhile became a bit less, and as stated before, there is enough slack in the mechanism of this hook to set it by hand to the correct position.
Just let go of the roof with the other hand (else your fingers could get pinched), the motor will then close the roof without murmur.
Needless to emphasize that the trunk has been closed after the fins had been attached, there is no need to hop out of the car twice.

Someone should ask their kids to do a tik tok video of opening and closing.

Westcoast, did you get a chance to see if the Smart Top module works on the Spyder yet?

Not sure the issue. The method outlined in the manual works perfectly. Easy peasy.

Here we go again , regarding the bolded, perhaps on you old car, you know the one you no longer have. You don't have a 718 Spyder and I am sure never put to top up on one, so your comment of "Easy peasy" is irrelevant... At least you are right about this:
Not sure the issue.
Just last week while at the dealership the service advisor and the salesman asked about the top, explained that a number of 718 Spyder customers are having trouble closing it.

Sorry, not yet, I have been swamped with projects and need to make some more time, but I have been sizing up the situation around the install, in the last car I had 2-way seats, move them up, flip the back forward and slide close to the dash, now with LWBS this may be a little tight!

That's a new one on me, I've never thought of describing a Porsche as organic....

The 911 is probably the most organic shape in the history of motoring. And the Cayman is the shape of a Caiman. The 981 is curvaceous and organic, while the 718 is more angular and hard edged.

Well, I'll buy into that based on this description " Organic shapes are defined as shapes that are irregular or asymmetrical in appearance and tend to have a curvy flow to them. Nearly all shapes found in nature are organic in appearance" The 911 certainly has a curvy flow. Just never thought of it that way, as organic...

I’d put the 987.2 as the most organic. In my mind the 981 would split the difference to the 718.
