Default Collection today

Just collected my Gentian blue Spyder today , the roof is very difficult to close it takes two people pushing the roof forwards to get the closing hook to activate, is this normal, maybe it will stretch over time ?
The other thing I have noticed, if you try changing gear with the engine off it sounds like an tin can ..... Is this normal or is the linkage hitting a shield or something.
otherwise pleased with the car , especially when the valves open at 4000 rpm , unfortunately still limited to 4500 but can't wait to get it run in 😀😀😀

All normal!

The gearshift sounds are an indication of how well built and raw the gearbox is. You hear the mechanical stuff, which is pure bliss.

with regards to the roof, I faced the same exact issue with a brand New 718 Spyder sitting at the showroom floor, not sure if I was closing it wrong, or like you mentioned it will loosen up after time.

Congrats!

Roof closure is somewhat normal, just leave it open - problem solved.

Or rewatch some of the Carfection videos on YT showing them putting it on, I don't recall they had a massive issue closing / opening though.

Well I only put the roof up when it goes in the garage , 5C but sunny today in Sweden 😀 found out tonight that if you pull the roof shut and the closing hook activates but misses the pocket on the windscreen frame the only way to get it into the open position is to drop the roof and close the rear deck then the hook will move retracted position, unless anyone knows different???

When I was picking up mine, I was informed that it might be difficult to close the roof initially and that it should get easier with time. Mine is not too bad though, I can definitely do it alone. Make sure you’re leaving the rear deck unlocked (place it down but don’t push it to lock) before closing the hook.

I was also advised not to leave the roof down for extended time (like days). Basically whenever you park in your garage, always close the roof. This way the material can stretch a little.

Also, congrats!

a little tip, i used to struggle with my roof to. Use your fingers to center the hook within opening and then press the close button, it shouldn’t take that much effort. if the hook is centered properly it will close without issue.

Tips for closing 718 Spyder roof:
1. Use the internal handles. They are about 30cm back from the leading edge of the roof. There is one on each side, about level with the sun visors. One hand stays on a handle, the other hand stays on the "roof close' button. Use the handle and pull the roof as close to the final position as you can manage. Keep pulling forward / down while pressing the button, you will help the motorised hook and it will help you.
2. If the hook missed, keep holding the close button and the hook will open up again for a second try. But the hook will never miss if you use the roof handles.
3. If you have arthritic shoulders or weak arms, this may not be the car for you.

Edit:
The correct sequence for closing is: close rear decklid fully, attach winglets, and only then do the "final closing" steps above. I would not recommend closing decklid as the final step. I would also not recommend grabbing the motorised hook, especially during the actuation of the hook (simply for the safety of your fingers).

great looking car
I had a 981 Spyder with the same roof for two years , it will get easier with time , either you get better at it or the cloth stretches a little bit , not sure
but overall , still an annoyance enough for me , that when they announced the 4.0 GTS with automatic roof , decided against the Spyder . I know there are differences , but to me not big enough at this time ..
