I really like the 718, but I struggle with the fact that one can get a nicely equipped Corvette GS for $70,000. But then again, I don't really want a Corvette....but the juxtaposition of a honkin V8 for 70 vs a turbo 4 for 90? As much as I like the 718, I just don't think it's a good value.
Assuming the GT4 and Spyder truly remain NA 6 cyl, and can be had for around 100, the scales even out some......I think that's where the value is on the 718, if one can acquire an allocation.

The Flat four WRX/718 is the best sounding four cylinder that's made. I would go so far as to say that it sounds good.
The difference is that a flat six makes lovely sounds.
The replacement of 'lovely' with 'good' is a detriment to an otherwise spot on car. Solid proof that Porsche is stepping on the two seater's toes.
They could have made a 2L flat six. They didn't.
Fast 0-60 times are easy: A big turbo and drag radials. Fast lap times are harder, but still easy: 345 width tires, stiff springs, and a blown V8.
Creating a car that stirs the emotions is the hardest challenge. There's no easy way out, no way to bullsh1t your way to victory. You either succeed, or simply don't.

I'm kinda sound obsessed too but went ahead and ordered a 718 because it so impressed me overall. That said, I'll likely be holding on to my V8 M3 for a while in case I need that particular aural fix :-)
Also... pushing 60 I think I'm a legitimate old-fart. Least my body feels that way these days, lol.

718 is probably a great car. I would not hesitate to add one (Cayman), but not as a replacement to the Spyder.

I am waiting for a 2018 base Cayman mt due at ATL PEC in October. I looked at the Corvette, which is very attractive, but it is not imo in the same ball park. One thing not usually mentioned here is the warranty: 3/36 v 4/50, which I take as a statement about the manufacturers views of reliability. It might be that the 718 is an evolutionary step toward a Cayman hybrid. I would like to see that. I also have a 2015 Macan S with pdk, which I will keep until my kids wangle it away. The sum investment in the two is under $120K, which is in 911 territory.

No doubt if you have the E92 M3 you'll be good to go on that front no doubt. Love love love the E92, assuming no hump in the dash. Still looking for a unicorn (E92, carbon roof, cloth seats, no nav, 6 speed, comp package)... kind of unlikely I will find one though.

I sat in a C7 Grand Sport at the Corvette Museum a few months back. With the seat at its lowest position and with the seatback raked back slightly more than was comfortable, the top of my head stuck out beyond the T-top, and the windshield was darn near directly in my line of sight -- and it was totally in my line of sight in a 987 Boxster I drove years ago, FWIW.
When I sat in a 718 in mid-May with full doses of skepticism ... it fit like a freaking glove. It's roomier in ways than my current BMW 2 Series.

Speaking of head room, there is a tall man review (
) of the Cayman - he is 6'10" and once in, has good leg and head room. The things you watch while waiting...at least I haven't turned to the imanuals yet.

I'm only 6' 1" but was also struck by the fit of the 718, even versus my e90 M3. Plenty of room in both, but the 718 just put me in the perfect driving position with minor adjustments whereas my M3 needed quite a bit of tweaking to find the sweet spot and even then doesn't seem quite as focused wrt driving position.

Now all that's needed is an 8200 rpm Voodoo engine. Mid engine handling and 500 hp.

Gotta say that my M3 has been impeccable in the fit and finish department. Not so much in the throttle body department. And... then there's the bearing issue which thankfully hasn't reared it's ugly head for me. Still for a DD that can haul a coupla kids it's been hard to beat.
