Plan to swap out my 20" Carrera S wheels in Satin black to 19" Apex Forged VS-5RS in Motorsport Gold.
Current specs:
35/35ZR20
265/35ZR20
New Wheels:
245/40/19 or 235/40/19 in 19x9 ET50
285/35/19 or 265/40/19 in 19x10.5 ET44
Kind of wondering if I should go for the 285 or 265 on the rear. The 265/40 fit would be a perfect speed match but is that too tight on a 10.5 wheel and offer no rim protection? The 285 might look better but will it lead to more understeer.

How much front camber do you have? With enough camber you can go 265 in the front with 285 in the rear, that's a nice combo and will solve your understeer concern.
That's what a 265 looks like up front, same wheel as you, just a different color. And, yes, my car is also a GTS.
I think I might want to try a red car bronze wheel look. These forged wheels also seem like an upgrade over the cast ones.
I definitely am conflicted about it though.
Porsche make good wheels. I would just paint them if you want to change it up. A lot of Porsche dealers will repaint for 200-250 a wheel and you get a loaner while they do it.
I would go either Satin Aurum or Satin Bronze on those wheels.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder so definitely do what you like best. I think the factory look expensive and nice. If you are not sure of the color try some of the spray on rubber color. Forgot the name of it but it works well. I have had it on my BMW grilles for 6-10 years. Best thing is no commitment. If you don't like it then peel it off.
Much prefer the looks, tire availability, and tire pricing of 18s & 19 over 20s personally, especially with respect to the brakes filling out the the wheel barrels. To each his own, but I think the gold apex will look great and be a performance improvement depending on what tires you choose (and sizes)

Check the manufacturer’s specs for the tire size you’re considering. Someone’s 245 may have a tread width similar to someone else’s 265 and vice versa. But in general, a 235 tire would be a little too narrow for a 9” rim. 255 to 265 will fit much better. In the back, 285 should fit just fine, but 265 may not be quite wide enough for a 10.5” rim.

While a 265/40-19 is technically approved for a 10.5" wheel, and Porsche themselves even put a 265/35-20 on a 10.5" wheel on the GTS 4.0 it is very stretched imo. For that wheel combination, we see the most pairings in 255/35-19 and 285/35-19. These tires are about .4" shorter than stock but keep the ratio front to rear in check which is important for TCS, ABS, and stability control. I would not pair a 245/40-19 and 285/35-19 tire on a non GT4 or Spyder, this will give you a taller than stock front tire and a shorter than stock rear tire which will throw that aforementioned height ratio off by a good amount and could cause some Stability control issues.
