Default Getting out of hold mode

I needed to move my 718 around the garage. I didn't want to start it up because, due to the lack of winter insurance, I would not be able to drive it warm.

In order to push it I needed to first get in, push the brake, put it in neutral, etc

Ok so when I went to move it back, it was in "hold" mode, and nothing I could do could get it out. I ended up starting it and ran it warm best I could.

These modern cars are too "smart" for their own good. Any way to get these things out of hold mode?

I don't think it's reasonable for the car to predict this scenario. Just start the damn thing and drive it for 10 minutes. Your insurance agent is not lurking in your garage.

i have a GT4 manual and i can "unhold" the car with just turning the ignition ON. Why not try this, if not done yet.

Was this the hill hold mode? I believe you can cause that by pressing the brake pedal firmly, but it won't tell you of course. You can disable hold mode in the PIWIS which requires some hardware and software from the aftermarket, even the dealer won't disable it for you.

It may be easier to put the car on casters during the winter, so you can move it around without starting it.

Maybe just rear parking brake shoes stuck to the drums inside rotor? (as these cars like to do)

What happens if you release the parking brake? Or apply and then release?

This I did try, as well as turning the ignition on and off, moving the pdk gear lever to various positions

Well, referencing your other thread, at least your speedometer is now accurate.

Just a thought: Any chance it was due to low battery voltage from sitting in storage for a while?
Initial ignition-on to release of PB may have dropped the voltage a little more so when you went to move it back it wouldn't release the PB?
Was it kept on a charger?

was on a charger.

I think my main beef is that I have no idea what the car is doing. It's doing what it thinks is good for me, instead of doing what I want it to do.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think there is a hold mode with ignition is off.

Probably just a grabby caliper. Did you wash it before storage?

No wash, but still possible. I'm going to explore this issue further when the weather is a bit warmer
