2018 Cayman 718 hatchback emergency release
I am hoping that the 718 community knows the answer to my question. I have been Googling and searching the forums for an answer to how to release the hatchback (rear trunk) when the car has no power.
I think that a little background might help. My 2018 Cayman 718 base was purchased from a salvage auction. The car thought that it was a submarine during a recent hurricane in Florida. I am working through removing the interior and plan to diagnose/clean/repair the electrical and mechanical systems once the wet carpets are removed. I have removed all carpets except for the hatchback area. At this time it isn’t safe to connect the battery so I am working through everything manually.
I have found numerous posts about the emergency release cable for the frunk (front trunk). I was able to find the release cable and access the frunk (thank you to the many people who posted about that). Unfortunately I haven’t been able to find the emergency release cable for the hatchback. I have found posts for earlier model caymans that specify that the cable is behind the rear wheel well splash guard. I have removed both rear tires and checked behind the splash guards but I don’t see a cable. I looked through an updated Porsche parts catalog but couldn’t find a part that represented the release cable. Does the cable exits on the 718 and if so where is it.
In the mean time I tried to remove the trim from the hatchback area by crawling over the engine. I can access the area (very tight fit) but all of the trim panels are struck under the hatch. I can’t remove the trim without opening the hatch.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

LowBee,
Thank you so much for the suggestion, it pointed me in the right direction. There is a plastic cover that houses the emergency release cable in the trim of the hatch. This plastic cover is on the driver's side of the car above the engine compartment. I was able to reach the cover from inside of the car. I had to use a screw driver to pry the cover open. The emergency release cable is attached to the plastic cover. For future reference I recommend inserting the screw driver at the end where the cover clips into the trim (side pointing to the front of the car). I inserted the screw driver at the opposite side (side pointing to the end of the car) and mangled the cover a little bit.
You are a life saver. I spent hours trying to figure it out. Your solution solved my problem in five minutes.
I have attached a few pictures for reference.
Thanks

Can't figure out how to DM you, but came across this post and sounds like we are both working on identical projects. I also just recently started to work on a flooded 718 from Florida and thought it might be helpful to share our findings. Feel free to reach out anytime here or email me at chris@jargen.com

Chris,
Thanks for reaching out and great idea. I created the thread below as a place to share that information. I have started with the auction purchase experience. Please add your experiences.
