Default The Final Model Year for 718 ICE

Anyone have information on the final model year for the 718 ICE

Seems like the EV will be released in 2023 (Perhaps as MY 2024)

No, at least not on this forum.

Last year the propaganda said the EV was going to be a MY24, so in theory ICE for MY23 and potentially no MY24 or only part of MY24 for the 982. But the way things are going everything keeps getting pushed so who knows.

I've read (reliable?) that a Porsche spokesman said the electric and ICE 718s are planned to be produced simultaneously for a while.

Doesn't make sense. hybrid and ice make sense, but a full EV and ICE combo would be odd as they would normally build very different chassis layouts for each power source and it would be a less than ideal layout to be able to interchange both on the same chassis.

I spoke to someone at my local Porsche dealership and this was his thought as well...that they will sell both side by side for a while to help with the transition to EV. He said he believes they are going to do that with the Macan. If they do it with the Macan, then he said he does not see why they would not do the same with the 718.

Porsche are planning just that for the Macan when the EV is finally released. Given the delays in production, commitment to suppliers for components etc, it stands to reason they will still build the total units they planned from the start.

+1. With events in Ukraine scrambling supply chains, I doubt that whatever was the plan, is still viable.

I think the target market for a 718 vs the Macan would dictate this strategy. The volumes are also very different on those models, so the economics probably doesn't work the same as the Macan either (IMHO).

The 992 and 982 are built alongside one another and have a completely different chassis. The 982 is really just a 981 chassis being built alongside the 992.

I would guess there is plenty of capacity for an EV. The biggest change is probably implementing the QC and safety protocol that goes along with EV production.

that's not what I mean.

Not what I meant. You'd have to design and build two totally different chassis, or you'd have an ICE car with structural and insulation for storing batteries it doesn't have. Not a big deal for a SUV, but for a sports car you'd also have totally different handling characteristics, so one car is going to handle like crap compared to the other most likely. Lots of extra R&D and expense for the ICE car to make it good. Different weight and distribution = vastly different suspension. totally different floor, side aperture, rocker reinforcement, wheelhouses, inner quarter structurer, outer 1/4, hinge pillars, and engine bay structurers. Different heights of the vehicle or pointless space at the bottom of the ice car. It's possible on a lot of vehicles but usually the difference is not that significant. ICE vs EV is either going to be hugely different for those components to the point where it has very little structurally and mechanically in common with the EV model... or the ICE car is likely going to be a lot worse for a sports car than it should be.

yes they would be two totally different chassis with the same badge in the “Cayman family”. The ice would almost certainly be a small evolution of the existing 982 model line. In fact, it may just be 982 models will simply continue in production years longer.

What about a 'lightly refreshed' 982 like what was done with the Macan? Interior was 'updated' with an opaque digital U.I., minimal exterior changes, and, and, and.

nobody knows. But keeping the ice line and EV line in production simultaneously is far from impossible.

Now that they’ve confirmed they won’t put the 4.0L engine in any other model, maybe it does make sense that they just make them longer.
