Default 2022 Inflation price check on Maintinance (Houston)

Took the 718 s in for maint this week for the last prepaid maint on the 5 year plan.

I asked what it would have cost. The SA said about 460 before tax. Here are the other things they found. Wanted to get your opinion on these prices. I looked online at tires and I think I can do better. I also thought the N1’s were loud. Also, any recs for a good Houston Indy would be appreciated.

oil change: 500 ish (need an Indy for this later)
4 tires 1460 (any recs for this?)
alignment: 300
battery: 800! Will DIY and buy a scanner that can code. Pays off in 1 go.

thanks!

I'm not sure what size of tires you have which is vital for pricing, but tires have gone up 20-30% since around August.

As for alignments a lot of independents will do an alignment where I am for around $100 because they know your average person coming in for an alignment only does so when they likely also have suspension problems to upsell on. $300 USD i'd call pretty steep for an alignment.

$500 for an oil change? I can’t imagine paying more than half that at a dealer. I know I never have in the past. I’m sure it’s gone up but that’s insane.

Do the oil change yourself - for what you would pay the stealer, you can buy oil, filter, floor jack, jack stands, and then you are set from then on...super easy to do.
Alignment - about $100 - $150 too high
Tires - actually not too bad but check if that includes mounting and road force balancing

I cannot fathom why anyone in their right mind would pay the stealer rate for normal maintenance items...

Last week I drove 80 miles in my very low mileage 981 to Porsche Austin. I waited 3 weeks for an appointment, just so could I guarantee a loaner car.

When I showed up, the loaner wasn’t available. Nobody bothered to call and ask if I wanted to reschedule.

Service Advisor’s response was that I should be the one to call and double check before I make the trip next time.

They cherry on top was discovering Porsche Austin bill $325 an hour now (could have sworn that was in the $1xx range a couple years ago).

Take it to Soul Speed in Austin instead. They do better work and are less expensive. https://soulspeed.com/

If you're in Houston, take it to Sam at The Garagisti. That's pretty much where most of us Houston PCA folks take our cars for regular maintenance and even some pretty involved projects. I want to say I paid around $195 for the last brake flush on my 718 Cayman and I believe oil changes are $225-250 for 981/982s. https://www.thegaragisti.com/ They host a ton of Porsche Club GTGs as well.

$500 for an oil change?!?! Sometimes I wonder if some dealers charge that much to convince people to buy their pre-paid maintenance plans. I'm in the DFW area and Grapevine Porsche charges $250 for oil changes. My local independent charges about $150 when they aren't running a promotion but when they do, it can be as low as $50. And it's done by Porsche certified techs.

Your pirelli tire quote is actually pretty good IMO. I really don't like any of the options in factory sizes for your car, but if it was me I'd consider the kuhmo ps91's or advan v601. Not because they're amazing tires but because the pirelli's aren't an amazing tire etiher and the kuhmos and advans are much cheaper for performance in the same ballpark (seeing the kuhmos are about $200 a tire on tirerack).

Oil change is different than the Scheduled Service.

Granted a minor service is essentially an oil change with a series of inspections.

Take a look at your Service Booklet and see what they’re doing on the annual services.

If you tell my dealer you just want an oil change they’ll do that and it isn’t $500 or close to that.

I might acquire a 981 this weekend so I am also looking for another Indy shop.

I have used Modern Aircooled twice for my 991...wasn't a fan..
Einar's Garage - great guy but I personally didn't care for the quality of work done on my 3.2.

My go to shop is Rennsport. It just sucks it's so far away and I have to plan ahead to get a ride back, and then go back again to pick up the car. Hour drive each way.

I've been getting emails from Garagisti, I am going to give them a call now to ask for some quotes.
I also just called European Auto Techniks (Mike). Seemed like a honest guy from my conversations with him. He is near 1960.

I have used Swiss Garage for brake job back in 2013 for my 987.

Stop looking. Call Chris. There is a reason he doesn't advertise here. He doesn't have to.
