Default PDK Sport: 718 Spyder

Can anyone point me to a thread that details the difference in PDK Sport. Thanks much.

This should be over in the 4.0 Forum.

Unfortunately, every PDK discussion gets hijacked by RL’rs explaining why they chose manuals…lol.

You can do an advanced search of the 991 GT3 and 718 4.0 forums on PDK Sport.

If you’re just getting one, recommend you go manual during break-in; the auto modes will spin to RL with very little encouragement.

Download the “Good to Know” app and look up the PDK. You will find out some cool stuff about it. That’s a really good app to have. I’ve enjoyed reading it and finding new things about my incoming car.

An excerpt for you is below. I highlighted one of the advantages of a PDK:SPORT mode shifts the control systems more toward high emotion and performance in everyday operation.
  • The electronic engine management system initiates more responsive control of the power unit. The engine dynamics are more direct.
  • Vehicles with PDK: A sporty gear-changing map is enabled and the gear shifting times are shorter.
  • Auto Start Stop function is deactivated automatically.
  • The optional sports exhaust system is activated automatically.

Great advice, thank you. I drove the manual, but a PCA national instructor told me he was was thrilled with the PDK S in the Spyder, exceeded his expectations. So I drove one and it changed my mind!

That was smart to take them both out for a drive and decide for yourself. There are so many ways to derive pleasure out of these cars, and the best way one can make the right choices is to experience the options.

The GTK app does not cover the GT cars. Only good for some shared items like PCM.

There is no “Sport” mode in the GT cars.

The PDK in the GT cars behaves significantly different than the non-GT cars.

Correct, the GT cars get 'PDK-S', not the standard PDK (which is already brilliant).

Lots of discussions on PDK-S in the GT3 forum. It was first used in the 991.1 (2014) GT3.

So……… since the Spyder & GT4 came from the GT division, do they get a PDK-S and the GTS 4.0 get a regular PDK?

Yes, although Porsche doesn’t use the term PDK-S

Hmm.... not convinced of this. Post in the GT$RS thread indicate that only the GT3 gets PDK-S. I will not bet either way.

However, PDK-S is not the same as PDK in sport mode.

Yes, of course different PDK box between GT3 and 982 because architecture.

Porsche does not use the term PDK-S, was perhaps an AP quip of long ago.

Comes down to functionality and programming…there they are the same. Even the launch announcement says so.

Does the GT4/Spyder PDK support the "clutch kick"? where one can disengage the PDK clutch by pulling both paddles while in motion and then re-engage upon release, facilitating a kick of the rear tires?

That press release has fallen off the edge of the internet as far as I can tell. I just got back from the Porsche Press portal. Only last ~12 releases are available.

I’d *like* to believe that the functionality of the GT4/Spyder is the same as PDK-S on the GT3,

Configurator for 992 GT3 has dropped “PDK-S” nomenclature.

Easy way to tell is if pulling both paddles back and holding places gearbox in neutral until both paddles are released.
