Default 4 way vs 14 way: upper back width

Another seat thread. I had a chance to drive a 2018 GTS Cayman with the 14 way seats and a 2019 Boxster S with the 4 way manual seats. The manual seat back was too narrow for me. I don’t think I’d be ok with it long term. But as I drove it my face hurt more than my back.

If I recall the backrest on the 14 way seat was wider across the upper back? Am I correct??

The wider backrest isn't dependent on 2 way, 14 way or 18 way, it is the Sport Seats Plus option. My 981 GTS had the mostly manual 2 way seats but they were the wider ones b/c Sport Plus was standard on the GTS.

14-way and 2-way Sport Seats have a narrow back; feels like you are lying back balancing on a rail. (IMO)

18-way and 2-way Sport Seats Plus have wider seat back; feels like you are sitting in a seat. (IMO)

OP: you probably were sitting in 18-way SSP (since a GTS.)

4-way manual seats are a 911 thang; not on 718s.

Second that 14 ways have a narrow upper back relative to 18 ways/Sports seats plus. Had a 2.5 GTS with the 14 ways and could never get comfortable - unfortunately it felt fine when I sat in the car before I bought it but then after a few drives became apparent that it would not get better despite any changing of settings. Now have the manual Sports seats plus and they feel much better.

Looking at a couple Boxsters, the dealer sent me the build sheet on two cars. He tells me that "the 18 way seats are sports seats plus....." and those two cars apparently do not. Neither built sheet he sent specifically says 14 way sports seat plus, (both car's happen to have the 14 way.) So the question is would the build sheet specifically say "Sport Seat Plus"?

I used the configurer to "Build" one and they list the 2 ways, the 2 ways plus, 14 way, 14 way plus etc etc. So I assume a build sheet would specifically say that.

Get VIN. Punch it into https://vinanalytics.com

Never trust dealer info to be correct.
