Default 718 GTS pricing not impacted by GTS4.0?

Am I crazy or does it seem that the 718 GTS hasn't really been impacted by the release of the GTS4.0? I was thinking prices might get pushed down (even though prices are generally up right now) with the availability of the inline 6. That doesn't seem to be the case - still seeing a lot of Boxster GTSs in the high $70s-80s with over 20k miles.

I can't even get a sense of what a "fair" price is for a 718 GTS is. My big fear would be getting slaughtered on resale in the future now that the 4.0 is out.

GTS 4.0 is more expensive, supply is limited, no used ones are available, and it's only slightly faster than the four cylinder GTS (also slower at low RPM). The sound and responsiveness of the 4.0L engine is desirable, but the 2.5L GTS is also a very nice car, and supply is limited for both used 2.5L cars and new 4.0L cars.

There is one in the Marketplace for 68K OBO; 102K MSRP. Seems fair...

My GTS 4.0 is cruising at 18 knots just west of the Azores. It will replace my 981; the “last” of the six-cylinder Caymans. I love the six cylinder naturally aspirated Caymans and I probably wouldn’t get a four cylinder GTS. However, I think there is a strong argument that the 718 S and four cylinder GTS are the better car. Having that torque below 4,000 rpm with the tall gearing makes all the sense in the world. Having the torque over 5,000 rpm with the tall gearing in the manual makes a lot less sense. I’m not surprised the 4 cylinder GTSs are keeping their value. They are great cars and available in a very tight used car market. It’s hard to get a six cylinder at the moment. In five or ten years I fully expect the six cylinder will be the 982/718 to have but at the moment I’m not surprised at what we’re seeing.

Agree completely; well-stated. Two other points to add:

1) The used car market is hot overall , as you said. Production delays on new cars, stock market is up, etc. Law of supply and demand.
2) The noise debate really only matters to us diehards and aficionados. 95% of the buying public doesn't care and the added expense of the 4.0 isn't worth it to them.

Edit - sorry, pretty redundant with what's already been said. Great minds think alike.

Yep, hoping as more 4.0s are delivered people are trading in 2.5s . The supply is low right now. I am looking for a pre-owned Cayman GTS . Doing tons of looking .

Funny thing I noticed is that all of them don't show up on the 3 major sites ( CarGurus , Autotrader and Cars.com ) I have to search all 3 , then even go to dealer websites.

Prices on flat-4 718s will come down once there’s more than a smidgeon of unsold inventory of new 718s.

Until then it’s a sellers market. Act accordingly if you want to get one.
