Unhappy 718 Sticky Seat Heater and Climate Control Buttons

Hello All,
Got a used 718 Boxster and on the passenger side (under the cup holder extension) it has had stuff spilled on the buttons I am thinking.

These buttons stick like the passenger seat heater.
I have tried rubbing alcohol to clean the switches best I could and it helped for a short time.

Do these buttons pop out - so I can clean better?
Any other ideas? Maybe some good electrical contact cleaner?

Just scared to pull/pry on these buttons as I don't know if they pop off.
Trying to avoid a dealer repair $$$.

Thanks,
Rich

I don't know for sure about these buttons, but most panel assemblies like this are best removed and disassembled from the underside.
The entire assembly usually pops out.
They usually have a couple of multi conductor cables to disconnect on the bottom side that controls the entire assembly.

You can then work on it out of the car.
That would also eliminate any potential marring or scratching of the topside finish.

Someone else may have more info on this..

Good link. I ‘de-coffee’d’ the HVAC panel on my wife’s (used) 991 when warranty was denied.

The main thing to remember is that every part of every button is unique and only goes in one place. (Not *exactly* true that. But, close.)

So, you spill your coffee and you’ll trade your Porsche in for a new one? Hang on. Let me find a cup...

Come on down to Austin. Just a matter of time before my morning coffee makes your day!

Many years ago I had this happen to me in my 991, I went through a drive through and got a sprite, the cup was flimsy and when I went to grab it the top of the cup came off and sprite spilled on the passenger hvac and seat heater/cooler buttons. Never thought to take it apart I tried everything from steaming the controls and then using a high powered vacuum to remove the water to contact cleaner, nothing worked.

I finally gave in and had the dealer replace the whole unit, to my surprise they covered it under warranty and this is after I already agreed to pay for it .. I got lucky.
