Default First Ever Porsche owned - 718 Boxster S

Good day everyone,

As the title suggested, bought a CPO 2018 Boxster S last week, the car has MT, PSE, PASM sport, PVT, 14 ways with memory, two-tone leather, BOSE, .....

Experience so far is brilliant. Porsche to me is top German car manufacturer among the others in the market. My main point of this thread is about MT vs PDK, here are my thoughts:

I had experience with PDK at a Porsche event in a race track, IMO, for track work, PDK is a must, it just shifts so fast and can "read" your mind about speed, and it is why 70% of Porsche cars sold are in this format. Why I choose MT? I hadn't driven one since early 1990's so I want to get back into it, also growing up, MT is the ONLY mode for sport cars. Also, the car I bought was the best available in my area for my taste.

Initially, I was struggling with the clutch take up, I would stall 3 out of 10 times at a stop, UNTIL I select the "sport" mode (the car doesn't have sport chrono pack), the clutch take up is much smoother now, almost no stalling from a dead stop, then it dawns on me that the sensitivity of the throttle response helps my problem with the clutch, now I am super happy and more confident on the road.

IMO, another point about MT to a Boxster is that I get more involved with the car, man and machine becomes one on a winding road, PDK is just too efficient, even though you can manually shift, is not the same with the third pedal experience. Like a Nikon D5 that can shoot X number of frames per second and most in focus, whereas MT is a Leica rangefinder camera, everything is manually operated, I have more satisfaction overall.

I am the limiting factor for this car and my challenge is to improve myself in taming this beast. Rev matching is my next lesson to tackle. Thanks for viewing a rather long message, straightly my own opinion.

Congrats on the new car - I'm with you on the manual. Both of my Porsches have been manual (997 previous, 981 currently), not ready for a PDK - yet. Definitely need some pics of your car.

Awesome, love the bow. My only recommendation would be clear side lenses and lots of driving.

Doesn't standard mode initiate auto engine off at all stops, wheres Sport mode disengages the function? I'd think that would play a roll for sure. MT/PDK debate will never go away - its purely diver preference. Personally, I prefer the MT on the H6 and the PDK on the H4. For me there's a noticeable difference with throttle response with the PDK on the turbo engine with its turbo spooling tech changing gears. On the NA, they pretty much felt the same and the throttle response makes heel-toeing more enjoyable

Congratulations, OP, beautiful car and with PASM/PTV/PSE you have the key options, not to mention the MT. I have the same combination. I purposely left out the Sports Chrono option on my build, I found it was too good and my heal toe and rev matching skills deteriorated . My base Boxster is really enjoyable to rev match and heal toe (actually I use the upper outer part of my right foot, not the heal) and the pedal positioning is spot on for me. I use sport mode and really mash it.

I hope you get some good convertible days in before the inevitable drop in temps and daylight we northerners are going to have to deal with...
