Default 718 GT4 & Spyder spec discussion

Post your specification or configurator quirks & observations here!

My observations:
# Happy to see the dark aluminium interior trim back as an option (free of additional charge too)
# Odd choice of colours in the configurator compared to what's on offer on a 'normal' 718 like Aventurine Green, Carmine Red and Lava Orange. Or Lizard Green from the 992..
# Apple Carplay available as separate option at a not too insane price. Yes, even on a GT4 very much welcome for me.
# No Burmester available on the GT4, it is available however on the Spyder.
# No front axle lift available. Hmmm ok.

Dave, your wife must be something for you to get that beautiful Spyder for her. First I thought you were lucky to have a 928 (I love them). Now I see there is more for you!! Much luck!

Ha. She’ll be getting that for herself She’s very-well employed.

Look at signature block. Add two non-Porsches to CarChick’s count. It’s a sickness we both share.

Burmester is available in the Spyder. But, surely it would be mostly useless even with the bikini top up.

You sound like my SA. But I would say quite the opposite. Nice to blast some music with the top down on the highway.

I have the Burmester system in the 991TT. It's very much better than the Bose in the 981CS. But the interior of the 981 is much noisier. I have to imagine that in a bikini-wearing Spyder it will be quite a bit noisier. Both systems can play loudly-enough, but the difference is the sound clarity and faithful reproduction of the source with the Burmester. I just think - but do not know - that much of the quality difference between the two will be drowned-out by the cabin noise.

But, Boxsters with Burmester are rarer than unicorn eggs. If you've ridden such a beast, tell me if with the top up, is it very-much noticeably better than Bose. I'm all ears.

Although color choice is limited/boring but for spyder it's tough to beat white/silver + spyder classic interior

I’m hoping that the rear window is glass. It makes no sense to keep it plastic. Glass would add 5 lbs max and allow for rear defog. I’m hoping that no mention means that they are at least still thinking about it. When the 981 Spyder was introduced, the press release “boasted” that the rear window would be light weight plastic. Also, it looks like the 18 way sport seats do not have a memory button. A button would add about 3 oz. Maybe that stuff will come later since the car is still nearly a year away from being in showrooms. I’d also like a seat ventilation option. Other than that, I really like what I’m seeing.

I have not even seen a boxster with Burmeister, but I won’t buy Bose, so my thinking is why not give it a shot? I would have gotten Burmeister on my GT3 if it was available. The base system is not terrible but unless you turn the bass down the door panels are not happy.

Heh. Sounds like you used to work there

Well... 'cause it's $4700. I don't mind - for weird values of 'mind' - spending that much on a factory stereo upgrade, but I need to be able to hear a noticeable positive improvement when driving down the road. It's not like I get my jollies by using $100 bills to light candles.

CarChick's 991S has the base system. It makes sound. It's better than nothing when you're bored in thick traffic. But, the Bose system in her 981 is better-enough that the $1000 extra is worthwhile despite my own low opinion of Bose automotive systems. The Burmester in the 991TT is damn good. It's not really worth the $3k up-charge over Bose, but it's better than having electrical gremlins installed.

As far as lighting $100 bills on fire, I am waiting for PTS .... Thought briefly about the olive green second skin wrap (on a black car I suppose?), but no. Maybe stick with gentian once I see a car in the flesh or if no PTS.

Going to swap in a wood wheel and out all the alcantara door junk and center console on delivery. Sheepskin covers will deal with the LWB alcantara.

Maybe I will skip Burmeister, but it’s not that much money. I am surprised people are speccing nav and not apple carplay. Carplay is one of my favorite things on my GT3. I just run waze all the time on it. The pothole and object on road alerts are lifesavers.

That is weird. I want it in my GT4 indeed.

P.s. Looks like you are going to have tons of fun with the Spyders! Or will ther only be a 'hers'?
