Manthey Racing 718 GTS as a Nurburgring Toy
here is an experience return of the 718 cayman GTS i will use the all season at the nurburgring for busy day on the track but after first test i will probably see for a record on track for a street legal 4 cylinder car (actually owned by the civic type R) iam sure with that spec the car can be around 7:30 full lap on the Nurburgring...
the car is one 718 gts european spec and the following setup was made by MANTHEY RACING:
-totally stock engine
-Complete KW competition 3 ways suspension with nordschleife setup and camber (around -3 front and -2.8 rear)
- cayman GT4 BBS FI forged wheel with tire size 295 rear and 245 front
-pirell trofeo R on BBS wheel and PS4s michelin on Oem wheels for rain use
-half roll cage
-schroth harness
-endless ma45 brake pads on oem steel disc
- brake line
-htc 64 brembo brake liquid
-TWL carbon ducktail (just for design no preformance expected)
The car is already stock a very well balanced and fast one but with this Manthey Racing setup she is clearly in an other league.
i made only 12laps last week end and i will go back next WE + 4 days of serious testing end of April.
but wow now the car is like a race car but with exactly the same confort than oem (maybe a bit lowered) but no stiffer than oem (i already had the sport spring)
Here is a first video (the third lap of the day where i still discover the car) and i can already catch a moded BMW M4 🤦🏻*♂️

I thought the 718 GTS already had the 4 cylinder record at ~7:40. The Civic Type R has the FWD record.
I can't wait to see what Manthey Racing can do with the 718 GTS!!! Would love to see a sub 7:30 time with the a street legal turbo 4!!!

Yes, 718 GTS already has done 7:40 on stock components. Larger R compound tires and 7:30 seems possible.
Really impressive time from the Civic though. I read that it was lightened a little (no infotainment system and rear seat) and was using road going track tires. Though still sounds like it was sliding around a bit so maybe not the best tires. Manual gearbox also. Guy is committed!

Yes. I read they lightened it to offset the roll cage that was added, but the main reason for the time was the "street-legal track focused tires". This could mean something with a tread wear rating as low as 40 (like a Hoosier). I believe the 718 Cayman S and GTS were running OEM tires. I'm pretty confident, with a similar tire change on the 718 GTS, you could get into the low 7:30s. I wouldn't be surprised if the Manthey Racing 718 was able to get below 7:30, with the setup they are running.

I agree, I too have only seen the 7:46 718 S lap time on video. However, the GTS 7:40 lap time on standard tyres is originally from a Porsche Press release so I think it is believable. They also quote 7:42 for the S.
" The 718 GTS completed the 73 corners and 20.83 kilometres of the Nürburgring Nordschleife in just 7:40 minutes on standard tyres. Compared to its predecessors, this makes it 16 seconds faster than the Boxster GTS, 13 seconds faster than the Cayman GTS, and two seconds faster than the current 718 Cayman S (7:42 minutes)."

Hey Seb, thank you for charing your video! I am in discussions with Christian Eick for a similar project, looks like the 718 Cayman is a great basis for a street legal track car. I am not sure in the moment which suspension to choose, Competition vs. Clubsport. By any chance, did you take the car stock to the track? So how much the KW adds?

There is a video on youtube (tap cayman gts MONZA) where i try the car totally stock on that track, if i going back here today, i can be 3/4 sec faster with that package for sure, and that with absolutely the same engine power.
First There is a significant price difference between clubsport and competition, as he told me if you will use only the car on the track take competition, of you want a good compromise take clubsport.
the difference between stock and with KW suspension is crazy, my car has got also the wider wheels (cayman gt4 size) and trofeo r tire on it.
You can keep the original brake system and use good brake pads on it
it is totally a different universe compare to the stock car even if stock is already pretty good👍🏻
Iam almost sure now the car is same fast or faster than a 991.1 gt3...
