Default 2019 or 2020 CGTS?

Hi

I am on the market looking for Cayman GTS. I just visited a local dealer for 2019 CGTS. He said open slot is June build and Sep delivery for 2019 CGTS. Wow. so 6 month wait?. Instead he suggested CPO but they dont have in stock. They have to locate from other dealers or auction. 6 month wait is normal? Then, when can we place order for 2020 model? I would prefer my own build unless CPO is cheap enough. If the price bump is not significant for 2020 model, i can wait a couple of month. any rumor on change in 2020 model? and when will they open for orders?
Thanks

2020 model should be an April/May lock for August delivery so your September delivery should be a 2020.

Thanks...that makes sense.

Any rumor on 2020 model change and price bump? typically how much MSRP increase in minor change? I haven't followed Porsche...

AFAIK, Model year change over is after July. Unless Porsche has changed *this* year.

992 builds are MY 2020 and April. But, no rumor or reason for 718 to jump ahead in MY by months; it’s not a new model like 992. June 718 build will still be MY’20.

Curious to know the OP's build option list since there are so many new 2018s and 2019s available. I also personally like well optioned cars. My 991.2 Targa 4S build sheet is 3 pages long, which also equals never getting your money out of it if important to you. If the build calls for a manual gearbox and still goes over $100k, I would heavily consider a Carrera T as an option since it shares some similar character with the Cayman like power and no sunroof, and I've seen quite a few new 2019 models well discounted at dealerships even with light weight buckets.

I've heard a few dealers hinting at something in 2020 that will differ enough from 2019s to make it worth the wait, but passed on no specifics.

If the OP, like me, is looking for a 6-MT then 95% (or so it seems) of the on-lot 718s are out of the picture. If one has one or two additional must-have options then there's slim pickings.

Exactly what I ran into. I wanted 6MT and Miami Blue with ventilated seats. But to be fair, Car Guru's did have some 718 CGTS that were close for me. I just got sucked into be-spoke.

Very nice color combo. Yes there are a few things I can see that you won't find too many with, such as lane change assist and deletion of alcantara headliner (which I prefer). If no alcantara in the roof, what is it, a stiffer black fabric? Often 6-figure Caymans have sport PASM because it's cheap, but PASM alone is quite good and the -20mm S-PASM lowered ride height just means you have to consciously protect it more. Other common niceties are PDLS headlamps and especially PDLS with LED headlamps, deviated color seat belts (chalk or Bordeaux red in your case), and the ultimate upgrade is the very pricy PCCB if you like super strong brakes with absolutely no brake dust ever (nice for black wheels).

For your reference: I called the dealer yesterday, said he just got new build slots. I put in a custom order for a base 718, freeze date is 4/7/19 and ETA at dealer is 7/12/19. He says it has a good chance of being moved up once they know it's sold.

I didn't give much thought to the model year, but for me it doesn't make sense to wait, Vermont summers are short, cab season will be half over in July Since I know exactly what I want, and MT with PTV a must, taking something off the lot is not an option for me.

There are literally hundreds of leftover 2018 and used Cayman GTS and Boxster GTS on the market. If you search Cars.com regularly you'll probably find what you're looking for in less than a month. Porsche also has a used car finder on its website, good chance you'll find something there.
