While we await a fix, I have been cross shopping the cayman GTS with the 911 T.
Wondering if anymore has done the same, and why did you ultimately choose the 718 over the 911?

I have not for a couple reasons. Primarily cost; to option a 911 to the same level as I did my CGTS, the cost is considerably higher for the 911. As for the 911 T specifically, I want regular door handles, not bits of webbing :P

Edit: forgot to mention the most important reason of all...I very much prefer how the Cayman handles. Something to do with where the engine sits, or some such nonsense, I've been told /s

ha! Funny, only reason I ask, is that since I have been cross shopping, I have seen a couple of CPO cars with less thank 5k miles and priced super aggressive. For 9k more, I can get into a 2018 911 T with 2k miles. I am a bit torn, but yes, I agree, the test drive was great and the car felt more stable and planted for the 718.

The 911 T will hold its value far, far better than any non Spyder/GT4 718. Of course it will also cost more to purchase, insure, and maintain.

I have a 991.2 911 and a 981 Boxster GTS. I bought a 991.2 over a 991.1 specifically because I wanted to experience something vastly different.

What I found is I prefer the Boxster. I can cane the heck out of it and never feel like I'm in over my head. That's thanks to the mid engine balance.

That being said, if there were no Boxster/Cayman I would get a 911 T with a manual transmission and rear axle steering. Best (street) driver's 911 of the current crop IMO. Be warned it is wicked fast and full of drama when driven hard. If you like that kind of thing take an extended test drive in the 911 T.

thanks! That’s what makes it a bit more confusing. I love the way the 718 GTS drives, and the 911 is great car and iconic. I don’t think I can go wrong with either. What you described in a T, is exactly what I found. 2018 CPO with 5k miles, manual, RAS. Granted, yes it’s $14k more, but am I really missing out on a great car for 14k? I’m still leaning toward the 718 for overall value. I guess in the end, I am
More concerned about regreting not kicking up the extra 14k for the T.

I had the choice between a 2018 Cayman S and a 2016 911 Carrera 4S both with PDK. Same price, similar mileage, the only difference being that the 911 was not a CPO. The 718 seemed more agile, hands down faster in the 2-4500 RPM range. This is a daily driver for me, so I am not going to spin around town between 6000 and 7000 RPM just to experience the glorious wail. Don't care much about exhaust noise either coming from a Mustang GT.

I am spoiled now, because whenever I drive my wife's 328i I feel it is loose and imprecise...

The car I have a deal pending on is a CPO with 4,200 miles on the clock. I was looking at the car fax, and I see no entries/records in the Carfax. The first record that shows up is the “dealer offer for sale date” , with 4k miles. I was a bit concerned with the previous 4K miles on the car. I asked the dealer if the car was track car (driving school), and I was told no. They did mention someone within the dealer was driving the car. Is there any way to finding out About it the first 4K miles?

It was used for dealer's purposes, with dealer plates. Anything from a loaner, to driving school, to a car for test drives. My wife's BMW 328i was a year old with 10k mi. We were the first time plate owners and we got it approximately 30% off. Now, it probably had a more sheltered life than a Porsche, but who knows. For the record, my 718 CS is a CPO with 11k mi. and one owner and we got it for 22% discount over sticker.

We like CPOs, we bought a 328i and a 740 iL back in the 90s and they served us very well. Her present BMW went past the 6 year warranty last year with 62k mi. on the clock. The car looks like new (always garaged both at home and work), has had few problems and I found a decent mechanic to do work on it. CPO's with a year's service are the sweet spot, if you can find them.

Looks like a little more information is coming out.

Fix will take about an hour and a half.

Thanks for the link. I hope it’s that simple. I sent a note to my SA to see if he has heard anything official from PNA. Fingers Crossed.
