I’d be interested to hear more about PCNA’s “awareness” of the heat soak issue. I’m on my 6th track weekend (with three weekends where the car was being dual-sessioned: instructor and student groups) and just experienced my first heat-related significant performance issue. Ambient temps hit 100+ today, and in the afternoon I saw an oil temp of 270 (when I backed off and ran a very slow cool off lap).
Boost was pulled down from 16 to 5 psi, while no other warning went off. The car was obviously sluggish and lap times suffered accordingly. This happened in subsequent sessions, even despite trying a flying/cool lap sequence. In the past my lap times have scaled with the ambient temp, but I mostly blamed the tires and air density. Today’s issues were clearly boost and temp related.
This is on a completely stock S.

We ran a quick Saturday only with PBOC at Sebring this weekend. Only one driver in the Instructor/Solo group, about 30 cars on track so lots of open space. It was very hot, very humid, and very very buggy. The love bugs were swarming like someone hit a beehive with a baseball bat. We had to wash the car three times because it was impossible to see after each session.
Two minor things we address this weekend to aid in the cooling of the car: We purchased a small electric blower to aim at the intakes and brakes in between runs. With only one driver the car had at least an hour to cool between sessions.
We also removed the large underbody panel under the engine/turbo/wastegate to see if that helps temps. From what we can tell the aerodynamics were not affected in anyway and the car still felt stable through Bishops Bend and at 145mph before T17. The turbo never heat soaked and was as quick on lap 1 as it was on the final lap of the day. The Florida heat had temps just above 90F. It's hard to tell if the blower, removing the panel, or both helped, but the car never skipped a beat.
We're back it again this coming weekend with PCA for two days. The photo of the Accessport is right off track while the car was hot

With that many love bugs I'd be checking the air filters and heat exchangers/rads. That's the worst I've ever seen!

Hey Suncoast folks, do you know if the entire coolant system will drain upon installing the 3rd radiator kit? Also, I know you recommend professional installation, but is there anything special about the install that a handy home mechanic wouldn't be able to do it?
Coming from the VW/Audi world I'm used to 100 people jumping on every new mod and always having a DIY around but with this car I'm finding a lot of information is missing out there on the net (like, how to remove bumpers, etc)

I Just Installed a third radiator (here's how to ensure no air in the system - there's a continual vacuum on the system all the time & minimal fluid loss):
- pull a vacuum on the system at the fill up reservoir using evacuation/fill up system - I used schwaben from ECS.
- the hoses to the front radiators will suck in, clamp all 4 of them at the front left/right radiator connection points (remove inner wheel liners).
- release the radiator bung on one side of the front radiators (for connection to the new third radiator) - only the coolant from that radiator will come out - catch it in a bucket it's not much.
- connect the hose to the third radiator on that side.
- do the same on the other side.
- get ready to top up the system by with the captured coolant plus a bit for the new third radiator (I reckon you only need a quart or so extra).
- release the 4 radiator hose clamps one at a time (with the vacuum obviously still applied let the coolant go after the first release).

UPDATE! We finally had some time to put on our new exhaust. This is the SOUL Performance 718 Competition system with catless downpipe and valved mufflers. Initial impressions are top notch fit and finish. It's mandrel bent and uses T304L stainless steel tubing. Welding is solid throughout the system. Install was a breeze as well. We do not have the valves hooked up right now and as soon as SOUL is finished with R&D/production on their race version exhaust we will be swapping over to that.
After a quick drive we noticed the response is a lot quicker and it has plenty of turbo noises (which we absolutely love). Our COBB Accessport read 384 ft/lbs of torque, but we're not sure how accurate that is. It's not as deep sounding as the previous exhaust, which didn't have any mufflers, but it sounds more refined. It still has the pops and bangs in Sport Mode. We opted for the slash cut brushed tips with the engraved SOUL logo.
Huge shout out to John Gaydos at SOUL for initially reaching out to us after the episode on track with our previous exhaust. He was a big help in getting this out to us and we are now an official SOUL Performance Products dealer. The lifetime warranty from SOUL is another added benefit for us, and they honor track use!
Here's a few quick photos we took during install. We'll be making a video shortly

Nice!!! Sound clips please!
btw, do you know if any stock tuned set up 718's are out running and if they're having same limp mode issues and or any other cars having heat issues in that heat ???
thanks for the great thread and info, keep up the great work and good luck on the track!!!
and yes, would really like some outside sound clips of the new exhaust and hopefully it helps with the heat issues too.

We got really comfortable with the RE-71R's while they were on. Great feedback and lasted 4 weekends for us. Once we switched to the Cup 2's we noticed an immediate rise in grip after the got a few heat cycles and they are a lot quieter, which is a good and bad thing. It did take us a few sessions to dial in the pressures and we felt they were the best at 28F/29R HOT which means 20F/21R COLD. We've only done a couple of days on them and we have two four-day events coming up in January at Sebring so we should be set for those. I think for a dedicated track car the Cup 2's are the way to go. If you do Auto-X and occasional track time then the RE-71R's might be a better.
Thanks!
Further to the ^rubber discussion, what was the reason that you went with 19" instead of 18" wheels & tires.

Sound clips are coming for sure. We has this installed at the end of the day on Friday and just took a quick drive.
We've come across a few posts on the internet where people were having the same issues as us. I think we're the furthest south to have the issues though.
We love the look of the OZ's and how the 19's fill out the wheel well. We did look at some 18" wheels but ultimately decided on the 19" Ultraleggeras. If we ever swap out to a slick we'll pick up a dedicated set of 18"

This post is making me go look at a 718 complete engine from a wreck on Friday to see about using it in my Psycho Beetle project. If it can give me 450hp it will be close to the power with the Subaru STi engine I have now and keep it in the family. I just cannot seem to leave well enough alone...

We had a slight stress crack where the upright meets the wing blade and we filled it in and used duct tape then wrapped the wing again to get us through a track weekend. NR Auto is supposed to be sending us their carbon wing but that was several months ago and it's been crickets since February when they were "beginning production" aka getting one shipped from China. We're not holding our breath.
We did have the idea of foam also but haven't done that yet. The tape and extra wrap made a pretty nice difference but it still bounces around. Side Note: With the Heigo roll bar and the rear wing it's very hard to see out the back window unless a car is right up on your bumper.
