Has anyone removed the grills to clean out debris that's made it past them? The dealer said that you just pull on the center tab, but I've tried and don't want to break anything. It would be good to get some insight before I going trying to work them out.

How much debris gets through even with the factory side grill inserts? I'm wondering if I should get the additional mesh-like inserts.

At least on my '25 2.0T, the outside grilles wouldn't provide any more protection than the inner factory ones IMO, so it'd be a waste of money for the protection factor. Some wants them for looks, but with the risk of damaging something with the tricky removal of the trim, plus their lofty price, I passed (I did get the front RGS ones installed on day 1, though). What I thought of doing is adding fiberglass screening to the factory intake grilles (with safety wire), but it's not necessary IMO, so decided to leave them well alone. Never had an issue with my 981 GTS, and don't think it had those grilles back then (could be wrong on that).
