Default But that ***?!?

Just can’t get past the rear of the car! Hopefully someone “hears” what engine it has soon.

Even if it gets the bigger 4.0 NA, I’d stick with my 981. It has enough HP for the street and for the track I’d spend my $$ on a GT3 (if I could only get one).

Only thing that could get me would be if they fixed the gearing, but doubt they would do that. And I’m guessing a substantial price hike.

Not concerned with the engine the RS will cover the need for speed I think the Spyder has enough power. Not too concerned about a 4.0, needs to look good. My Spyder and RS are the best two cars I have driven and owned.

As much as I like buying and trying cars, I honestly think I'd be content if my 981 spyder was the last car I could ever own.

The front bumpers on the 718's look absolutely atrocious. From the bland/boxy/nondescript "cheap" looking bumper on the standard 718's, to the horribly clunkily overdesigned and non-aggressive SportDesign bumpers (the first time I've ever seen Porsche get SD bumpers wrong), it's very odd. Don't know what they were thinking.

Compare to the beautifully organic, flowing and timeless bumper on the 981's, made even nicer and more aggressive whilst maintaining the organic flow on the GTS models, then made into absolute aggressive, natural, timeless, perfection on the Spyder/GT4.

will not be the last car I own, but I’m really sure I will not sell it. Funny I was at the Porsche center in ATL for a business meeting, and we were having drinks with a certain exective ......he said never sell you Spyder and smiled.

That’s my feeling as well.

Years ago I told myself that I only really want one fun/hobby car and when I bought the Spyder I found myself the owner of, in my mind, the perfect sports car. The engine provides plenty of power for my driving style and I love the sound and the smooth delivery, I really don’t have the urge to make any changes to it. The handling is absolutely epic and I definitely didn’t want to mess with it. I was fortunate enough to order it with the options I wanted and the leather features I wanted so there is no need to make any changes inside. Finally I think Porsche hit a home run with the styling. It’s not often I walk by a car and it literally makes me stop and stare and the Spyder does that for me. Having bought the car new I started caring for it immediately and it really doesn’t need any type of restoration or work, it still looks, drives and smells new.

Which leads to the one problem I I have with the Spyder. One of the aspects of the car hobby that I enjoy is the restoration and mild modifications to improve upon the stock product. The Spyder is perfect so I really had nothing to do to it except drive it and clean it. There was no way I would consider selling it and even when I did debate it there was nothing that compared. So I found myself wanting another hobby car that was less than perfect which is how I ended up with the Targa. Fortunately it will be some time before I get the Targa the way I want and maybe by then I’ll have room for something else.

This gets me thinking... Is he saying this because Porsche plans on closing that gap between the GT4 and Spyder? Essentially loosing it's purity of being one of the best mountain road cars out there, shifting to more track focused car? From the spy photos of the GT4 and Spyder, it will be quite a bit more aggressive than the 981... still deciding if that is a good thing or not.

I love my 981 Spyder for all of the reasons so well articulated by the numerous owners on this site. I also have a spot for the 718 Spyder but it’s going to have to be an unqualified step forward in all respects. A tall order to say the least. Otherwise I’m good until...

From an alternative universe in a time not too long from now, how about a Boxster Spyder Hybrid complete with Hypercar performance. A junior 918. Oh yeah... with memory seats.

I can only give you my perspective for what it’s worth .....several guys one being a ex MB executive big car guy. He told the MB guy if you can find a 981 Spyder buy it, and told me not to sell mine. Post that we started chatting about other things. I’m not worried about the 4.0 if it happens I don’t think the car needs more power. Personally your car is pretty damn nice. I got mine used with 3900 miles and the spec I wanted, and the only thing that would drive me is the feeling of building my own car. I think I’m past that. Also if that’s the real hood that’s a non starter for me it’s plan Jane.

The 981 bumper and hood looks aggressive and sleek. If the 718 shots are the Spyder is a downgrade in looks in my opinion.

Don't see anything in those pix that interests me... surprised no upper bumper vent. That's one of the things I like most about the 981 Spyder (reminds me of my 997.2 GT3) .
