Default GT vs GTS values down the road

I'm looking at the 91 GT & 94 GTS both on e-bay and was trying to determine if one would hold its value better then the other.

Both cars look to be about the same level of quality.
Color combo I like.
Decent mileage.

Have been considering placing a bid on one or the other.

In an emergency situation the GTS might be a better choice if the wife has to drive.
But the GT might have a better service history.

Its more about buying the right 928. One that I can enjoy for years to come.

But in this screwed up economy I want to try and make the wisest choice just in case I have to sell it in 2012.

Both are realy nice car.
But if you can go with the extra $$$, go with the GTS.
This one looks like a very nice example. Nice color combo too.

Good luck.

The manual transmission cars in general hold their values better, much like convertibles.

One useful thing to look at is the prices in Europe. The prices in the US may be skewed by the US specific import numbers. Does anyone know how the gt is priced relatively to automatic gts in Germany, for example? UK is another useful pricing benchmark.

collectability is gonna always be better on the GTS as the last of their breed, and far better known/appreciated.

The GT continues to be the rare-and-outstanding-yet-affordable feller. Under-appreciated, probably not as collectible, but great to drive.

if its not a late model 94 with those R2 rods I would get the GT it looks clean and Im sure it will keep its value better considering some automatic GTS s are being sold for a low price from time to time. maybe Im wrong but that GTS looks like a late 93.

Both are nice 928s. As far as investment, for the BIN price you are paying over $10k more for the GTS, which has 18k less miles & is 3 yrs newer. Might depend greatly on how much you plan to drive the car regarding on your ROI, or the one you lose the least $$ on. If you aren't planning on putting many miles on the car each yr., then get the one you want. If you want a 5 spd, get the GT, if you don't like shifting gears, get the GTS. Both will always be in the upper level of demand regarding 928s, where ever the demand level is at the time.

GTS is a far better "investment" if you want to call it that....since it will continue to drop for a few years at least.....

I do think the "sleeper" of the 928 "investments" is the 89 GT..... its value is only slightly higher than normal 89's.....but down the road should be very desirable since only about 100 came to the USA

I hope you are not making a decision on which of those cars based on future value speculation.

I would say get the one you like, ie, 5 speed vs auto or the look of the GTS with aero mirrors, body color wing and rear fender flair versus GT.

With most Porsches the newer in a model the more development goes into the car.

Me, I like the rear fender flairs, colored wing, aero mirrors and because I drive the snot out of my cars, bigger brakes of the GTS. I also paid the premium price to get the 5 speed.

namasgt,
What are the R2 rods in the GTS ?

The body style of the GTS is a plus. But I liked the S4 body style ever since I first saw one.

Neither car would really be ever considered an investment .....
but I bet looking at a 928 in my garage would make me happier vs looking at my Vanguard account.

Curious what the production numbers are on the Automatic GTS vs the GT's of any year.

This really comes down to, do you want a 5spd or Auto.

I also think that most collectors will consider the 5spd more desireable due to the fact that many view them as the more sporting version. Other than the 20 additional HP, mirrors and the rear hips I don't think the GTS has anything else as far as updates go. Now if we were talking GTS 5spd vs GT then there's no question the GTS would be more desireable.

look at post 29
https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...pistons-2.html

Drive an automatic and a manual and see which one you like. In reselling a 928, having a manual is always a plus. just look at how many autos not selling for the asking price they sell well below their true value.
Both cars look clean but the GTS one is giving information about the cars factory specs (which is stupid) not much about what kind of maintenance was done it just says up to date. What does up to date mean oil change, air filter change?
but the GT is a little more specific about what kind of maintenance was done, so I think it might be a good buy. It looks like the GTS is being sold by a dealer and that could mean that it was bought from an auction; I personally don’t like auction cars nor trade in cars.

yes, but those are easy and "cheap" to replace to the GTS ones... IF you ever would need that on the street............ ?

Now if value counts in time... i would go the manual. Look what they bid for a manual GT transaxle alone !
