The guy in this shot looks like one of those weird photos in "The Ring."

Other than the rather obvious camoflage body cladding, there doesn't seem to be any major renovation of the body style. This is a good thing and in keeping with the 911 heritage. From 1974 to 1989 the body style was nearly identical. The 997 is gorgeous and I hope and expect that changes will be subtle in future years.

I think the photos seem to confirm what Georg Kacher wrote in the latest edition of Car Magazine, namely, that the basic design will be highly evolutionary. Key changes being:
- potential substitution of door mirrors with cameras and small screens in the base of the A-pillar
- higher use of light weight materials
- downsizing of base engine to 3.4 liters with power at 350bhp
- switch to electro-hydraulic steering from hydraulic steering (hope they don't screw up the feel)
- shortening of front and rear overhangs
AND, as the most interesting point
- increase of the wheelbase by 100mm
These photos seem to clearly evidence the increase in the wheel-base. Am sure someone more technically savvy can super-impose a couple of views to really prove this, I am not that capable, but, pulling up a side view of a 997 Turbo, have a look at what seems ot be increased space between the rear edge of the door and the beginning of the rear wheel arch. Also, look at the rear overhang, from the trailing edge of the rear wheel arch to the back of the car seems to be less than the diameter of the wheel for the 998 mule, but this distance seems to be at least the diameter of a 19 inch wheel for the existing 997.
My first takeaways on this are: Increasing the wheelbase will probably be beneficial to handling, but, hopefully the new car has not grown in terms of overall length, and, hopefully all of this is done while still maintaining the compact feel and all round manouverability of the existing car.
