Default early 356 shop repair manual? recommendations

Looking for some guidance on a good shop manual/resource book for guidance on routine maintenance and troubleshooting. Any recommendations?

Look up Harry Pellow. Check out 356registry.com.

Pellow's books are great for rebuilding an engine.

For electrics, Joe Leoni's books are invaluable.

For repairs and maintenance, I use Muir's "How to keep your VW alive forever" (hearsay, I know, but I'm a mechanical idiot) as a what to do and how to do it and replace numbers/specs by looking them up in Elfrink's Technical Manual. This combo has gotten me through not only regular things (oil change, check points/distributer, valve clearance, etc) but also replacing my throw out bearing, generator, etc.

Ken Ball's "356 A B C" is good too.

What year?

Please join the 356 registry if you have not yet.

The factory shop manual is good and available as a reproduction.

Don't know about the VW manual, but I have Elfrink's (a tattered old copy from eBay). Factory repros from Charlie White (see 356 Registry vendors), and others. For electrical stuff, Joe Leoni's books are invaluable! See Blocks Books the current vendor, also listed on 356 Registry. I don't get very deep into my engine so no expert, usually it's off to my 356 wrench for anything more than very basic.
