If you look at Hagerty values, I am not surprised at that sale. Prices have been getting crazy. At a crossroads with my '60 Coupe - start restoration or sell now. Leaning towards starting a restoration (she's a driver though sat too long and needs some engine work), hate to part with her.

They made 356s in 1965, and I think they even made a few in 1966.

I think you're right, though they were 1965 production sold in 1966

Yup. Our head High School swimming coach had a 1965 yellow sunroof 356C. It was still a baby back in the 70's. Coach Delong was one of the cool teacher/coaches. He even trusted us to do oil changes and other minor service stuff in Auto Shop.

There were ten cabriolets made in March of 1966 for the Dutch police force.

My father in law has a 65 SC. Unrestored and he's the original owner.

It's always good to remember the huge 18% spread between what the buyer pays and what the seller receives on these auction sales.

Assuming the standard 10% buyer's premium and 10% seller fee, this car hammered for $88,000, but the buyer paid $96,800 ($88K plus 10%), and the seller only received $79,200 ($88K minus 10%).

Actually the seller probably received even less, because seller usually also pays listing fee, photography fee, etc.
