Default Is it a real Porsche?

As a 356 owner that goes to many car shows I get asked this question often.

I just don't get it. I've never asked a guy if his car was real.

Does this happen to other 356 owners?

There is a perfectly good reason that this happens. Its the exact thing that happens to AC cobra owners. It's because they make replicas of those cars. And to people who can't tell the difference, perhaps the 356 looks like the intermeccanica their uncle has.

So when they ask, you should just proudly say yes, and remember that they are only asking because they don't know any better.

Yeah....I'm generally the only 356 there.

I'm trying to be polite, but for instance last Tuesday at the weekly gathering at Duffys, not only does the guy ask me but begins to look closely at my badge and under my front wheel well. Kind of inspecting my car.

I'm thinking,Jesus h Keerist where do these people come from. As I've learned over the years best to keep quiet and smile. He's enjoying my car....we are all having fun. Off color comments I guess go with displaying something. Maybe it's southern Palm Beach county. I don't know.

Never been asked if my coupe is real, but I have been asked "what the heck is that?" by several Boxster owners and new 911 owners...

Unfortunately there are several being made. For example: http://www.specialtyauto.com/appearance_-_coupe.htm

And don't forget the Brazillian (I think) Enovemo or however you spell it - IIRC it was a clone of a B T6 coupe

Some cars (like some owners) just don't look their age. I think its a compliment (in both instances).

I would not worry about the feelings of someone who starts out by asking such a rude question themselves.

I guess you could always say "Well bless your heart...thanks for asking?"

The only drawback about my 58 speedster is that everybody asks, "where is the kit from?" I actually prefer them thinking it's a replica.
