Default Best way to fight battery terminal corrosion?

I have 1965 C. I switched over a 6v Optima a few years back in hopes I could prevent the constant corrosion you get with lead acid batteries.

I have been able to stop the bad white fluffy stuff but I still get minor greenish corrosion on the copper wires and some tarnish on the terminals. The terminal tarnish is causing all sorts of problems with the trickle charger and occasionally will make the car heard to start if it has sat for a couple of weeks.

Is there any treatment I can use to kill this corrosion?

As often as Im cleaning and inspecting my car it never stands a chance to form. I bet I pull that tire out monthly to clean and arrange jack, tools, rags, tire repair kit etc. I also have my battery sitting on a folded microfiber towel lightly sprayed with WD 40. It just never has a chance to form.

That said, I still use that red spray sold at the parts store specifically to keep terminals clean....and it works very well.

I also use Battery Terminal Cleaner & Protector and haven't ever had a problem on any of my cars. You can usually get it at any local auto parts store.

I would recommend a battery box/tray to prevent corrosion if acid is spilled, I also used vaseline on the poles to prevent corrosion on them and attached wires.

Brush some baking soda paste onto it with an old toothbrush, the alkalinity will counter the acid and the remaining effluent is harmless and it's dirt cheap.

Clean them then try Dilectric grease. You can find it at any auto parts store.

Weird side story. I clean up the terminals and wires with all the suggestions from you all but the trickle charger was still acting funny.

It would start to charge and then after a few minutes display an error message.

I checked its functionality in every way possible and was totally stumped as to what was going wrong. After sleeping on it, on whim I checked the inline fuse and for some strange reason the fuse had partially blown. There was a small hairline crack in the fuse that was allowing conductivity when it was dead cold but the gap would spread and break the connection when it warmed up.

How strange is that?

I smoked a Battery Tender a few years back. It literally was smoking but did not catch on fire. I contacted Battery Tender and they informed me that the Tenders are sensitive to power surges and that was probably the cause. I now have all my Tenders on strip surge suppressors. It's also easier to shut them all off with the suppressor switch instead of unplugging them.
