1958 356 Speedster Wiring Diagram
Hi
I am not a 356 owner, but a 993 owner, so don't hold that against me.
A friend owns a 1958 Speedster that has an issue with the brake lights and has asked if I can fix them, so I guess all us Porsche people stick together and help each other out.
Can anyone email or suggest where I can get a copy of the wiring diagram?
Thanks,

I just bought a set of custom drawings from Bill Block books http://blocks-books.com/BLOCKS-BOOKS/Welcome.html. The book is by Joe Leoni. He provides drawings of individual circuits.
You can also get factory manuals and wiring diagrams from Charlie White http://derwhites356literature.com/
I just fixed problematic brake lights on my '58 coupe. The ground wires and straps were a mess which made the brake and running lights do funny things.

Hi Matt,
I don't seem to have power to the brake light switch or know which fuse is for the brake lights.
Plus there must be a join in the wire from the brake light switch to the fuse box, as there is a change of wire colours between the two points.
Thanks for the information above.
Great to see your a 993 owner as well....

According to Joe Leoni's book fuse 1 has a black wire (with white tracer I believe) running to the brake light switch. Fuse #1 is on the far right side. Taillights are fuse #7 and #8

Joe Leoni's electrical books are a MUST HAVE for a 356 owner!!! Not just diagrams, but lots of troublesooting advice. Get them while you can, Joe has retired from this (he was a college engineering prof before doing his electrical books in "retirement") and while Bill Block still sells them who knows how long they will be available.

I have a 993 and a 356 pre a speedster. I always use Stoddard for my 356. In case you want to upgrade the wiring harness, there are several reproductions that are better than factory. You can PM me for details

BTW, a common problem with brake lights is the bulb base doesn't make full contact with the ageing receptacle. A little dob of solder on the base of the bulb can fix that. Also make sure the grounds are good - no ground, no light!
