Default Collector Car Insurance Providers

Hi Gang,

I don't visit this forum that often (have 997) but I am buying a "collector car" and looking at Grundy and Hagerty agreed value insurance for it.

Grundy's quote is the best. Any reasons not to use them? What are your experiences and recommendations for this type of insuror?

Thanks for the advice!

John

I use Hagerty. I would make sure you are comfortable with the restricted use guidelines of the insurance company. There seems to be a grey area regarding what is "Collector Car Usage". They definitely don't want the car to be used as a daily driver -type errands. They said over the phone that it was OK to us it for a random errand on occaison but its better if you were combining that with a tour or trip to the mechanic, or somewho tied to the car. I also got them to say as much in an email, just to be safe.

That was my biggest concern, as I do like to take a car to work , once in a blue moon. Or, a quick stop at the store if I happen to be out in that car. Good luck.

We had hagertys for years on our 911 and 40 ford streetrod. We moved last year and notified hag. They wanted proof of ins on our daily drivers....which we supplied....which we always had before. Two weeks go by and we get a letter of cancellation and a refund check for 650 bucks. Reason was failure to supply proof of ins on daily drivers!!!
We went to our Home owners/daily driver ins co, Shelter, and they covered the 911 and SR with full coverage, much cheaper, agreed value and no mileage limitation.
Check with your regular ins co. you might be surprised too.

Agree, check with your regular insurance. I started my 356 with specialty insurance through Leland West but it did not allow any driving to and from work (which I like to do occasionally). I ended up adding it to my regular Safeco policy at the same (very low) cost, better coverage and no restrictions on where I could drive it.

In my experience it is cheaper getting quotes online. Some of the top insurance companies offer discounts when ordering online, because it is less work for them. But to be safe you could compare rates online, pick the best offer and try a local agency to see if they can match it or do better.

I recommend this site for online comparing: http://www.quotes-center.com/auto-insurance-calculator

I agree with Jim for agreeing with me!

It's supposed to be fun to own these cars and if you're "not allowed" to drive them when and where you want......why have 'em!
