P-606-159 engine, Serial Number 200646

Just ran across the car invoice for our 1962 Porsche. Sales price 9/27/62 was for $3700.00 My brother sold the car in San Diego in 1969 I think. Just wondering if it is still alive!

That's actually a 1961 model year Karmann hardtop. It is not listed in the 356 Registry, which doesn't mean it's not still around.

It is not unusual for Porsches of that vintage to be registered with the DMV as a different year than what the factory says is the year of manufacture. Our 1960 S-90 coupe (per Porsche's records) has been registered as a 1961 since it was brought to Calif. from Switzerland many years ago.

/\ True, my 1960 was registered as a 1961 when I bought it and even the COA listed it as a 1961, but got that fixed in a new COA and registered it in CA as a 1960.

In looking at the invoice, it did say "used" and but it did say 1962. Yes, it was a Karmann hardtop. I remember my brother was in college when we got it and I was in high school. I knew that fellow sports car driver would flash their lights at each other. I had gotten in the habit of flashing Karmann Ghias. Well, when my brother returned from school the first time and saw that I was flashing the Karmann Ghias, he pointed out to me they were just a re-bodied VW and I should stop the flashing! Which I did.
