"Made By Hand" — a 1960 Porsche factory video
Thought some of you might enjoy this: it's the beginning of a five-part film about the making of the 356. ("Ultimate Factories" from days of yore.) Remarkable to see all this body work without robotics. Enjoy!

What a cool video!! It is very ironic that I literally just finished watching a DVD of the Ferrari factory that national geographic channel made a couple of years ago then saw your post! I watched both virtually back to back- some similar hand made manufacturing takes place today in the ferrari factory that took place at porsche (and every other manufacturer) back then before all the automation and "plastication" of cars.
This is a must watch for any 356 owner, and anyone remotely interested in porsche's history- makes you appreciate all the efforts of the hand made 356 and 911 cars before everything changed in the late 1990's.

I have that on DVD and its especially cool since my 365 is a 1960 that was probably built a couple months (by my estimate) after that video was made. If anyone wants it, it is available at the "356 Goody Store", on sale for $15 until Sunday! http://www.356registry.com/goodiesto...cart/index.php

Very cool. I did cringe when I saw them applying the "rustproofing" undercoating and then later soaking the cars down with hoses to test the water-tightness of the seals.
You could almost see the rust bubbles starting as they left the factory.
