Default '57 Speedster + '63 Coupe= '09 911 Cabrio

I have and uncle who just traded in a '57 Speedster(older restoration) 100% complete, beautiful car, and a '63 Coupe original, everything complete, needing paint, interior recondiitoning, suspension issues, but engine is sound. He got in straight trade a 911 Cabio. There was no cash exchange thus no sales taxes or income tax if he had sold it out right. What do you think?

In 10 years the cab will be worth 25k or so.

But hey, if he's happy then he did the right thing.

The 356's will make their next owners happy too.

I wouldn't have done that deal, but if thats what floats his boat. . .

Personally, If I was tired of both cars, I'd look for another appreciating asset, or at least one that will hold its value, maybe a '73 RS and '66 corvette. . . or if he needed something "new", I'd have looked for a low mileage '01 turbo and have kept the speedster.

Oh, crap. . . I thought you posted that he got a turbo cab, he just got a C2 cab??? The guy got hosed.

ASSuming neither car was a rust bucket, the speedster was probably worth $95-115k, and the coupe, $20-25k. so that $105-$140k got him a car worth $85-$100k (new, depending on options), and worth $70-$85k the minute he drives it off the lot, and a lot less in a year. If he's so loaded that it doesn't matter, that's cool, but then you probably wouldn't have asked.

If the Speedster was in top condition I would say he could get around 100+ euro for it here in Europe, don't know what that would be in $ but a bit more than the $95-115k you posted I guess.

To be honest, he made a horrible deal. Not that there is anything wrong with a brand new 911, but more that he 'gave away' a collector item.

This is about the oddest thing I've read today. Who trades in a Speedster and a T6 on a new car? What was he thinking...............

He should have posted those cars online. That cab will be near worth nothing in 5 years.
Which dealer took in the trades?
PM the dealers name if you have it. I'd be interested in the Speedster.

Srsly... you should suggest to him that - if possible - he should let the deal go back !

I just saw my uncle today a good 3 weeks since the deal went down. He is still happy with his deal so I would tell him any different. The odd thing he really did know the value of the cars.

I know it was a dealer in the Cleveland area. I don't know which one(I presume there is more than one)
