Default "Porsche" watch my dad got from Porsche with his '58

The other day, my dad gave me a wristwatch he said he got from Porsche in 1958 when he bought a new 356. (The 356 is long gone). The watch is silver, with "PORSCHE" in red across the top of the face, and no numbers, just silver narrow diamonds for the time markings.

The bummer is that the stem is broken.

First, anyone have any idea where a watch like this can be repaired, if at all?

Second, what's the story behind watches like these?

Very neat. can you post a side view of the case? It looks similar to some of my older ('50s era) Omegas.

Sure, give me some time. Note that there is no second hand, just that smooth round button like dot in the center.

I just popped open the back. It says it's a "Basis Watch" in a couple places and there is a "BRAC" stamped in that almost looks hand stamped, like someone's initials.

It also says "one jewel" and is not automatic.

Wondeful watch. Thank you for posting. Just a side note: the red you talk it's "maroon".

I think Bigmac's idea was to buy a cheap one and replace the machinery instead of fixing it.

Surely its similar to a 100,000km watch? I'd be certainly fixing it, even if it was a present from my worst enemy. Is it gold like this one?
