OK, thanks. It's a 15.5 on a disc brake C Coupe.

JRoss, this is a very useful chart for 356 owners considering tires & wheels...
http://www.356registry.org/Tech/tires.html
As you can see, 195s are a feasible fit.
I have driven 185-70 Vredesteins on 5.5s on a '64 Cab - very workable combo.
I have 165s (Dunlops) on 5.5 Fuchs on my '65 Coupe, works fine for me.
There is always a potential for rubbing w/ very wide tires on lowered cars, esp if there has been some rear accident damge in the past (as many 356s have suffered).
Good luck!

ps: everyone's pov differs, but I have gained a great appreciation for "the way the factory did things" - the feel & handling of a 356 is unique & operates as a system. modern tire designs (low profile w/ stiff sidewalls) can mitigate the optimal behavior (& too me, driving pleasure) of a standard 356.

That's what I was looking for! Thank you!

I did a lot of searching a couple years ago when I got 5.5" rims and ended up with 185 / 65 Contis on the strong recommendation of a very active 356er, and I've been happy with them. The thought was to get a little more tread on the road, but not too much so as to cause a negative in handling. Be careful getting tires that are too wide as you could have clearance issues.
