Default Verifying 356 Body Code Info

Is anyone able to tell me if the following all match - the body number suggests a 1961 convertible, consistent with the photos. But the engine number looks a bit odd. Any help appreciated.

Body number 89048 (or possiby 88048 hard to tell from photo)
Synthetic enamel number 6002 (if that means anything)
Body plate :Anciens etanlissements d,ieteren freres sa:
Engine number P65040

Thanks

You can enter the VIN and/or engine # (trans too IIRC) at www.356a.com and it will tell you what years/models it is appropriate for. Of couse, the CoA/Kardex is the only way to find out if that is the original engine to *that* particular car...

Either vin is for a '61 D'Ieteren Roadster, not a Cab. It is meaningful whether it is a twin-grille or not, so confirm the exact vin & check the rear end photos. Engine # you list is for a '57 1600N, so if that is accurate, it is not the original motor in the car - however, P605040 could be correct - & the same type, a 60hp Normal. The only way to know for sure if a specific motor # matches a specific chassis is to have the factory Kardex or Cert of Authenticity, otherwise you can only know that it is in sequence for that MY or not. 6002 is the color code: Ruby Red. good luck!

Steve, thanks for the link. I was using a different search site that did not recognise the numbers I entered.
Ked, correct, car is advertised as you say. Maybe a digit has been missed and the numbers do match after all.

If I get it I will be sure to post the news. No news is, in this case, bad news.

Thanks

Ked is right...this vin# refers to a Roadster...#89048 would be a 1961 D'Ieteren, and #88048 would be a Drauz's body one...6002 is ruby red and it would be correct for either vin#s...you better confirm both vin and engine #...

PS. I personally love the Roadsters...
