Just had to share my excitement guys... After a couple of years of storage in my folks garage on Kiawah Island, SC My '64 C coupe is home for good. My wife and I have been bouncing around with relocations for the last few years and I decided to store her with them until we got settled. Now, just need to get her started.....

I found her in '98 in Knoxville, TN sitting in a driveway uncovered with 4 flat tires. There was a elderly lady watering some flowers and I rolled my window down and asked if her Porsche was for sale. She thought about it for a second and said "I suppose so". Inspected the car (which had CA tags 4 years out of date, and the front plate was the original '64 tag) and was shocked to find no rust at all except for under the battery. The paint (ivory) was shot, and the interior was baked. She said that she bought the car new in '64 in San Antonio and drove it back to L.A. She told me a few stories about it over the years including it being stolen in the '70s and recovered unharmed. She and her husband had retired to Knoxville 4 years earlier and she had driven it from L.A. to TN!!! It had been sitting in the same spot since then. I asked her how much and held my breath. She said "let's see" and opened the glove box to produce all original books as well as the original window sticker! "$4,750". After some talking we settled on $5,500. Ok, maybe I should feel guilty, but to my defense I had never priced a 356 before and truly did not know any better. I called my dad who has owned several 356s back in the day. After adding new fuel, some stater fluid, and airing up the tires, we gave her a little pull from my Defender 90 and she came to life! Ran like a champion! Took her to Don Ramsay at Air Cooled Classics in Knoxville and told him to have at her. Engine and transmission rebuild, Webber carbs, new paint (Ivory), interior (switched from yuck brown to burgandy), carpet, headliner, chrome wheels, new hub caps, misc. chrome pieces replaced, and topped her off with a Nardi wheel. And then after all that, she has been in storage most of the time

So at 10pm last night we rolled her off the trailer and into her new home garage (freshly painted walls covered with Porsche art and spare parts) Thanks for the inspiration Joanne I will get her fired up and running strong next weekend. And no, we will not be seperated like that again.

P.S. my 3 yr old son is convinced that "Herbie" is now living in our garage

I'm so very happy for you!!! Never be guilty when someone sells you something for a low price. It's not like you ripped her off. She came up with the price and you ran with it! Your just lucky, that's all.

So have you named "her" yet?

Great story !

I relate to your excitment. I bought a 356A coupe 6 weeks ago.
She hadn't been driven for quite a while, and needed some TLC
.....so *fingers crossed*... she arrives home next week !

Congrats Q. I know the excitement. My C has been in the shop for a month now.... But she should be home this week ready for some miles! I went to the shop to visit yesterday, Franz Foreign Auto. Old Franz was a factory mechanic back in the day. He no longer works, but his shop manager took me in the back yesterday. Under some old dusty blankets was a '65 C Cabrio, and a '58 A coupe that Franz had race preped the motor. They had not moved for 3 years. Both were perfect, and sitting in an old dusty garage in a less than savory part of town. You never know do you????? Anyway, I dreamed about Porsches all night....

Ok guys, it's been a while, but after a head job she is up and running like a champ! I learned that 356s do not like to sit for a couple of years in a garage... She is driven weekly and now gets her exercise. 216929 is back!
Quick question. I remember tis happining a few years ago, and it fixed itself... Last weekend on our Saturday morning drive to St Augustine I noticed it pulling to one side. It felt like a low tire. When I got home I noticed a "hot" smell. Sure enough one of the rear wheels was hot to the touch. Sticking brake?
