Additionally, 7's and 8's won't fit. I do like the idea of inch-wider wheels on the rear, though. On my '62 B, I am running stock 4.5" steel rims in the front and modified 5.5" steel rims in the rear. The benefits are manifold: cuts down on overseer (Porsche started doing the same thing itself later when it figured out what was going on), doesn't mess up the delightful light mechanical steering feel (best part of a later 356), softens the on-stilts look at the rear, and half the time the spare will be the right size for use on the road. Plus it is a subtle modification which can be reversed in a few minutes.
My tire sizes are 165-78 (stock) and 185-70 (same outside diameter, so no speedometer or odometer error). Pirelli and Vredestein make tires in both sizes.

Not sure where the details of this ended-up, didn't read all comments. However, I had Fuchs on my 1964 SC cab and loved the look.
They were 15 x 6, fit with no issue, and had polished petals & lip with blk background. For me it made it look Porsche and no one ever confused it as replica.. a Speedster to those that didn't know better, but never a replica/kit.
If I can find a pic I will post.
My current outlaw (57A) refresh/build may end-up with 7 & 8s, but that's a whole different and unique story..
Good luck!

I have found a set of 7 and 8 x 16" original Fuchs rims and want to fit them to my Speedster. Tyre size 205 50 16 on all easiy. The fronts are no problem but the back is just a bit too wide.
I wanted to know if anyone has experienced fitting such rims by either machining a bit off the inside hub or inside rim. Because of the suspension there is not enough space to move them in too much and i dont want to roll the fender as this messes with the lines.
I am running discs all round.
Any ideas ?
