Default The Auction

Someone paid $77,000 for a restored red ‘64 coupe. G&W has a red ‘64 SC coupe with 34,000 original miles for $46,500. Restorations are worth more than cars in good original condition?

if you're talking about the Barrett-Jackson, many prices don't make sense there. It really depends on who's in the audience and has a bidder paddle :-)There was a beautiful 63 S Sunroof coupe that went for $41k yesterday - probably 1/2 what the resto cost. Tonight's update said a 55 Speedster brought $125k, and that seems about market valve.

I thought the ‘55 Speedster would bring more. I saw that ‘63 coupe sell yesterday. Someone paid the same money ($42k) for a Speedster "recreation" titled as a ‘64 VW. Odd.

no doubt! Some early Beetle convertibles brought more than that too - it really depends on who's in the audience, and how many beverages they've had!!

still wonderful entertainment - the only "reality tv" that I watch

it looks like really nice old VWs may be the new new thing!
fully restored cars will often go higher than originals at an event like this - investor-speculators may prefer a finished car (a known quantity) to one that might need future restoration (up to 6 figures). they leave the survivors / one-owners / originals to the enthusiasts.
I can't believe the AH 3000s are going higher than XKEs! a friend sold his Jag out there & another is watching the Porsches closely (not many, though).

BJ reflects market demographics, fads & froth... and the influence of alcohol on judgement. I have never seen so many middle-aged, overweight white guys under one tent in my life! Looks to me that all the values are flattening out - w/ so many resto-mods and shop-built muscle cars making cars, perhaps market demand is getting met - not as many deals, not as many surprises. Lotsa beautiful 50s & 60s Detroit iron & chrome though!

That was my EXACT THOUGHT also!

LOL......
When reading the above (shown in quotes) I saw FATTENING OUT not flattening out........ Watching all those middle aged overweight white guys spending big bucks on all those cars has done some damage to my eyes!!!

JoAnne

PS: There are many more Porsche's / Euro cars are sold at the R M Auctions. Too bad that isn't also televised.

Jo, thats where youre wrong! RM is televised on ESPN Classic (the main announcer/host sucks and he speaks like he is talking to little kids or idiots), but the main guy on the floor is the one and only Alain DeCadinett

Is it on this year? It was on last year, like for a half hour or hour or something like that. Very Disappointing. I don't even think it was live.... was it?

The new "TOY" should be here tomorrow. The Intercity Truck has been stuck in the Ice Storms, just like we were. We don't mind, better Late than Sorry....

JoAnne

BTW:
YOU ARE WRONG!!!!!
ESPN Classics is showing the R M Auction that happened in MONTEREY, CA. (according to your linky) Not in the one that is going on right now at the same time as BJ in Arizona.

YESSIREEE Sir!! We do!!! Intercity just delivered it to us this morning. We picked it up in So. Cal. while on our trip.

I'd say our garage is now complete.

LGC: Tell us more about the Ponder collection sale.....

HARRY: Yup, RM is also in Phoenix right now.
