Roadsters fetch big bucks now days. It needs some major, major work but it's possible. Watch for this car to be sold and restored and in parked a proper garage by this time next year.

What a great story that would make huh??

I bought one in 1978 that was in that shape or worse. Same color. I gave $1000 for it and everybody thought I was crazy. I drove 'Old Fred" to the '81 Parade in Asheville, and it was on the cover of Pano and VW-Porsche magazine.
Times have changed!!!

That's not a repair, that's a full blown ground up restoration on a D roadster, you could drop six figures easily.

And maybe win at the 2008 Parade. Six figures for sure. But it's only money and there is always someone that can justify the expense if they want something bad enough.

More, much more........................................

It's too far gone for $30,000.00 - 40,0000.00. We were given $80,000.00 worth of receipts with our '58 when we bought it and it was no where near in that bad of condition when the restoration was started. I agree with butzip. It would take at least $100,000.00 to make it decent.

That's an unbelieveable price for a correctly done restoration. That couldn't of been a quote from one of the well known 356 shops was it?

Jo

PS: PM? Did you see the Yellow TT when you were at RPM?

the Roadster went for $30K. no question that open 356s are strong & getting stronger. this car will take $60K (& more?!) to be considered "restored" - even more to be a concours contender. amazing.

there is a big span from "driver status" to "correctly done restoration" to "concours". I'd say over $40K (or more!). I wonder how long before the Barrett-Jackson craziness will target 356s?
