I'm so happy for you guys!!!!!

I remember how good Rana was with the twins and how much she wanted you guys to have your own kids to love. You two will be GREAT PARENTS!

Congratulations!!!

We are Registed for PCA Palooza. We haven't paid for the dinner yet as we aren't 100% certain that we'll be able to make it. Our house is for sale, but as slow as the market is right now, we aren't holding our breath until it sells...

Seems like a lot of $ for what the newspaper article attached to the E-bay sale describes as a self- designed, self-constructed VW special, even if it does sport some 356 parts and is drop-dead gorgeous and has an enviable racing history.

"a self- designed, self-constructed VW special"
one could almost describe 356 #1 in the same way! I think these specials (also like Otto Mathe's & the Glocklers) have grown in interest & value because they had success in competition, often against factory Porsches & other "refined" Euro sports cars, + a human-interest story. It also helps when an example has such striking bodywork. Now that there are very few undiscovered early factory models remaining to research, restore & resell, collectors seek even more obscure or unique cars. We've already seen this in American road race specials (such as "Old Yeller" or the Scarabs, usually these one-offs had a Detroit V8 in a custom chassis).

So, don't ignore that old, neglected home-built w/o body or motor languishing under a tarp that you stumble across - it may be a diamond in the rough!
