If you want to master launching the drag strip is the place to go.

Sorry gang,
I didn't mean to initiate any kind of argument or heated discussion or that sort of thing. It was only that I was interested in the car and whether it, or the body alone, was ever successful in drag racing. You know, since the little cars seemed to dominate every other racing venue in they took part.
As for racing in general, I don't drag race. We haven't really even finished out 356 track car. The only racing that I've done, pretty much what I enjoy best, is SCCA Production class or enduro. I would like to try hill climb this Summer, they have them in Vermont and New Hampshire. But so far, it's all been track racing in TR8s, no 356's yet.
HOWEVER . . . I have to say that, from a strictly scuptural/asthetic standpoint. The top heavy, teeter-totter effect of an Altered or Gasser from the 60's has a certain fascination and appeal to me. As for climbing upwards, strapping into one of those old war horses, and lighting up an engine of that size and power, the interior dust and dirt erupting into mid air, the noise and vibration and simple mechanical brutishness . . . well, it MIGHT be kinda fun.

Well for the record, I took my 356B coupe in the Sporting Car Club of SA's Historic 1/4 mile sprint last year. Pics of the event can be seen here: http://www.planetsoftware.com.au/Dot...aspx?tabid=137
From what i've read, in its day a S90 would do a 19.5 second run. I managed 17.98. Hardly record breaking I know, but I did win my class and had a bit of fun in the process.

La la la....
I actually did a time or two down the strip here in Wa. - pretty funny actually and by no means fast. i think my Et's were up there with grandma's car.
auto crossing it in the Slush series was much more fun (we have a series that runs from Jan to March up here)
Again not too fast but fun
Why not do it?

TC,
That is the only photo I have. Here are some clues that you can google to see if you can find more:
The driver listed on the car is Paul Swanson.
A sponsor is GT Technologies.
I remember there are some world records associated with the car.
Also, check out my post here: http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...ead.php?t=9723
This book isn't out yet but the car is on the cover - top row, second in from the right edge.
Let us know what you find out.
