In the last couple of months I bought (2) 65 SC coupes. Not sure if I paid too much but don't really care since I am happy with both cars.

The first is a rust free black plate nice daily driver needing new seats now and a paint job plus a bit more down the road. I am in N. Calif were the car has always lived and it has receipts back to 72. It was originally sky blue so I am happy to take on the job of returning it to it's birth color. $18,500

I wasn't planning on buying a second car but when an Irish Green SC w/ sun roof came up on ebay I had to do it since that is the car I have wanted for nearly 40 years. Body work and paint are completed, assembly required but all parts there. It is on it's way from Florida and if it is as represented as I expect it will be, I am happy @ $18,600.

Both have running engines, but I enjoy the work as much as the driving so it's all good. By the way, I also have an Arena Red 993. Small world.

PPI on the first, not the second. Figured a complete matching # SC with new paint was worth $18,600 w/ or w/o a trouble free engine. Ran before the rstoration started so we will see. Got my figures crossed.

Yes, please let us know how they show up--from my experience, "matching numbers" and "original" are oft-overused words in 356-land. I have a 62 coupe with all of its original body panels, but a motor from a '58 Normal [although the tranny number matches]. I have seen cars in worse shape represented quite differently during my searches.

By the way, I had a repetitious dream the lasrt few night about being a passenger in a 356 and getting into a fatality accident - it's weird it keeps coming up, I have a new reason to not buy a 356 :P

I am waiting on a response from the seller, he is away on an extended vacation and should return in March. I should get pics, etc. He is a reputable independent porsche shop so we'll see where it goes.

I looked in the latest panorma and there were 3 or 4 64 SC coupes for sale with a real wide range of prices as well.

I'll update with info as I learn more and go see it, it is local so I will be able to see it.

Well the ebay SC purchase I mentioned last week arrived. Some good news and some bad. The numbers do match the Cert. of A. and the paint job looks good. The big plus is the car originally came with a wood steering wheel and the seller didn't know if was still there since it had always been leather wrapped. Well it's there. I need to verify it is original not aftermarket.
The bad. The parts seem to all be there but generally rough. The sun roof was placed on the roof for transport (enclosed trailer) but got loose and arrived with a chip and two scratches in the roof. Some of the under body rust repairs are very rough and will need to be redone. Much bigger project than the local car which needs paint and interior & a few minor parts.

Dear Phil...congratulations on the new Irish Green SC...sorry about the transportation damage...hope it's an easy fix...as far as originallity...VDM and Les Leston made wood steering wheels for the late cars (1964-1965)...they were the only factory supplied wood wheels for the late 356s...Nardi and Derrington also made aftermarket versions back there...the VDM was exactly like the standard black plastic version as far as spokes but the wood rim had an ebony inlay around the outsidecircumference.

Finally got some more info on the car, most of the original statements were valid except for the rust free part. There was quite a bit of it in the structure of the car and the body needed major re-work. Car ended up selling for 12k but the expenses associated with a full restore seemed prohibitive to me.

Thanks for the good suggestions. My plan is to find someone local and get to drive one as well as continue to educate myself on the varius models. There is quite a price range on these cars, just looking at panorama had several 64 SC's for sale in various states of restoration. Once I lock in on a model, I am sure I'll find the right one.

Hi Sleddog...I'd consider a "C" as well as an "SC"...most of these cars have already the big bore (1750cc) kit installed and a well sorted C is definitely as good as an SC...
